Each was forged using special ore—only Rokuhira-san, as a blacksmith, was talented enough to harness it and imbue each blade without harm. Impressive, right!? [ROKUHIRA-SAN... SO COOL...] As a result, each blade was capable of unleashing great power, using the wielder's spirit energy. Like sorcery, but amplified to a much stronger degree due to the properties of the blade.

That is very impressive. It would take someone powerful to control and contain raw spiritual energy like that. But if the blade serves as a conduit, it can reflect back even more powerful than if it were roaming on its own. That's magnificent!

The tradeoff is that due to the limited capacity of spirit energy within one's body, our contract with the blades meant that we had to permanently give up the ability to use our own innate sorcery. But it was worth it, to be told by Rokuhira-san that he considered me worthy of one of his swords, and to fight on his behalf on the battlefield.

Like extra hands in battle. [ they assume. they don't know what that means entirely but they can guess. ] Having extra reinforcements of any kind must have been very helpful. But then how do you replenish your spiritual energy after you wield it?

How does it work where you're from?

Are you familiar with psychics?

Are they anything like sorcerers?

[holyspirits]

In a way. They're people who can tap into spiritual energy in objects, or in certain places where the energy gathers. They can see the future, they can read your future, and they can perform some pretty big things if they channel their energy.

Seeing and reading the future's new to me, unless you count fortune tellers and the like. [aka who knows if they really have the power or if it's a scam.] Are psychics commonplace?

Not particularly, but my entire family has those abilities. I grew up around it, so I was curious. About the differences, that is.

I see. Well, sorcery's a bit similar—its nature tends to be hereditary, so clan members are likely to all possess the same kind.

Does the rest of society know about it?

[holyspirits]

That makes sense. Does it ever skip generations? [ there's a nod. ]

Everyone in town knows. And people outside of it, too. They made a business out of it.

I'm not part of any clan or anything myself, so I'm not too sure.

... So kind of like fortune tellers, then?

[holyspirits]

Yeah. People can call for readings over the phone, but a lot of people come to the house to have their cards read instead. You can pick up a lot from a person's energy by meeting them face to face.

Sounds like a complicated business. I imagine you get all kinds of clients.

It can be, and we do. But I usually stay out of the readings unless I'm needed. I can't do much otherwise.

What was your part in them?

Sometimes my presence would help make things a little more clear for them.

I guess to use your example, I would be kind of like a blade. [ someone who is used to help harness more energy. ]

It's family. [ so yes and no. ] I like being needed even if I can't always see what they see.
