[Welcome... to a weirdass place! Woah! Everywhere you look, you're surrounded by fields of flaming black lycoris noirges (higanbana) and weird rock formations and falling stone pillars. The skyline out in the distance appears to be mostly jagged-looking, beautiful crystals, and even further, more distant jagged mountains. The sky overhead is pitch black and clouded with twinkling stars and a large, bloody moon hanging down over everyone.
The flowers, when touched, leave a scorching and lingering burn without actually burning away your clothing or flesh, even if they don't appear to be visibly alight. Sometimes the wind kicks petals right up at you, wow, rude. The structures are climb-able! You can't really see much outside of a bloody ocean, though. Walking in any direction just nets you more of the same: more burning flowers, more strange pillars and rocks. The blood ocean is... bloody. Mmm tastee.]
(Please treat this as a FFA-style tag-in and tag at your leisure! Characters can explore the setting a bit, but they won't find anything particularly amiss beyond the obvious extremely bizarre things that are amiss just yet. At this point in the CYOA, if you've opted to have AU memories, they can start slowly trickling in in whatever way you find most fun to play with! Note that regardless of AU memories, characters will not recall that they need to get back to Heaven, even though they'll remember all of their Heavenly CR and experiences unless you'd like to rob those with a full Arpechele AU!)
[ What a world to show up in. The first thing she does is check for her things- and upon not finding them looks unsettled. If it's not there, there's no way to get it back now. She's immediately on high alert.
She's going to start climbing up one of the structures to see as much of the layout as possible. ]
[ This has been IMPLIED to him that it's happened but. Confirming? Maybe? Unless she's like no I live here and he has to chalk it up to AU nonsense again. ]
[ My brother in Christ I do not even know where to start with trying to guess where Marcoh's at mentally by Thursday. Maybe he's in full 'this may as well happen' mode. He just stares off at all of this and hmmmmmm that's not cool.
Takes advantage of the fact that he still has his heaven memories temporarily (?) to immediately kind of waft over to Koharu and Siffrin though once he sees them. He'd ask where they are but obviously none of them know jack shit. ]
[Regardless of where these four are in their explorations, something happens rather abruptly. There's a very strong whip-like wind that tears through the area, sending a veritable hurricane of burning black flower petals blasting through the air. Though strangely, despite the risk they posed earlier, these don't seem to burn when they touch you. They do, however, completely obscure your vision. Gooby, spooky ethereal landscape and eerie red moon! After a second or two, it might feel like you're actually blacking out, and then...]
You have no recollection of the space you were last in with its flaming fields of flowers. Though you can recall your relationships from Heaven, you no longer recall dying. How could you have, when you've lived right here your whole lives? Instead, those people slot into place within your current life. Friendly faces from your past, coworkers, partners, companions; they're all here, all present, and the horrors you've faced over the last month and change vanish like a bad dream.
Koharu enjoys a quiet, peaceful life with her lovely, lovely girlfriend the straights aren't allowed into paradise. She tends to her family's bakery, and though her day starts early and she works hard, it's a fulfilling, quiet, happy sort of existence. Despite her station in Coene, she doesn't struggle to make ends meet, and any sorrow that she's faced in her life to this point is something that she's been able to overcome with the help and kindness of the many bonds she's made. She'll recall that she went to the same orphanage as Siffrin and Marcoh when she was younger.
Siffrin has a life full of boundless connections and camaraderie, with fond memories extending all the way back into a childhood where they were adored. They're very cherished by all of their clients, and the family they've found within their shopkeeping endeavors is tightknit and priceless. They find their work fulfilling, and each day feels like the beginning of a new adventure, even when nothing really changes. They'll recall that they went to the same orphanage as Koharu and Marcoh when they were younger.
They are both in the marketplace. Must have gotten up and started your day like usual, right? Yes - when you think back on it, you can recall that happening. It's just a day like any other. The market place is full of the same vendors; flowers, fruits, clothing, trinkets. Anything you can think of, really. The sun is shining warmly and people converse cheerily amongst themselves, and you can smell something delicious cooking not that far away.
So. How are you going to start the day in this idyllic, beautiful life of yours?]
[ Yes, we've definitely always been here. On this fine day, while looking mega cute, Koharu lights up as they pass a stall with apples; she tugs gently at Siffrin's sleeve, canting her head towards it. ]
—Look! Maybe the prices are cheaper than they were last week...? Let's go see.
you have no recollection of the space you were last in with its flaming fields of flowers. though you can recall your relationships from Heaven, you no longer recall dying. how could you have, when you've lived right here your whole lives? instead, those people slot into place within your current life. friendly faces from your past, coworkers, partners, companions; they're all here, all present, and the horrors you've faced over the last month and change vanish like a bad dream.
when firefly wakes, she is greeted by a familiar(?) room. it's familiar, isn't it? it's been hers ever since she joined the institute. clean lines of circuitry run through the walls in an aesthetic manner, giving it a futuristic look even though this is the year (static noises) and they don't even have airplanes. but you know what they do have? the institute. a beacon of hope against the curse that plagues the island. there are relivers there, even though they come with their own deficits. there are two factions in the institute: one that will extend the longevity of reliver bodies, and one that will grant their emotions back to them. which faction does she belong in? either way, she'll need to start the day and get to work. at least her room is probably cute, full of little baubles from friends and the people she's worked with—life is truly as normal as it can be here.
when marcoh wakes, he is in the cozy abode that he's had all his life. soon he'll report to courrune where yves and jiaoqiu will tackle the day's work orders with him. the little pot of money that they make is divided between the three of them, but courrune's name has been spreading more and more lately. how fortunate! the work is honest and the pay is good, and what more can anyone hope for in a life in an island like this? though there is perhaps a little bit of a nagging sentiment. dear marcoh, you're already 22. you know that that must mean that the days are numbered before you will pass.... even though you're experiencing none of the telltale signs of the curse. there's no itch in your throat, no bloodied taste in your mouth. even so, you'll have to make a decision one day. will you become a reliver? have you made a decision yet? will you exchange all that you love for an extended life... or are you content with the years you've gotten?
for now, you're in separate places. firefly can explore the institute, and marcoh can get ready to face the day in coene, the commoner's district. anything else you might be looking for can be asked, yippee. ]
[ Of course it's familiar to her. It's her(?) room, with all the little trinkets and things she keeps here, a little firefly figure from a friend on a desk, a cute pink ribbon from a colleague kept in a little box of hair accessories. Its cozy, its decorated, its hers. But there's not time to admire it right now. She does all the usual morning routine, getting dressed for work. Just as usual, nothing seems strange.
She's heading to work, because she's an industrious little employee... Which side did she work on? It was... longevity (can't be that) trying to return reliver emotions, wasn't it? That's where she's walking.
[The four wake back up in the field of burning lycoris noirges with the heavy red moon and glittering, starry sky, but their memories are clear now. They know where they are and how they got here. This is Hades, the final resting point for sinners after their death. The last stop for those who have something to repent for. For the wicked, for the vile—but also for those who simply have too much guilt to hold, too many mistakes to make up for, or self-perceived blame sitting in their hearts. Those who simply believe themselves to deserve punishment find their way here just as easily as those who don't.
This time, they feel much more deceased (cold to the touch with no pulse) while Hades is much more alive. The fields roar with fire, and all around them they hear the screams both distant and near of sinners undergoing their own trials and punishments. Yet no matter how far they might look, they only see each other. They all have the same inherent understanding: that there are still more trials to overcome. There are still people whom they need to face. Pulled by an invisible string, they know that they need to make their way through this beautiful and terrifying landscape to a distant, ornate gate.
But of course, what's Hades without a few challenges? As they travel, they won't just have to face the environment, which is burning and hostile on its own. They will have to fight off apparitions of those they believe they've harmed in the past or those they care for, who hurl spiteful, viperous accusations of betrayal and harm at them. Their minds are a bit scrambled. They could have some trouble separating their false life in Arpechele from their real lives, or they might end up remembering only one or the other. They may even occasionally turn on one another, filled with the sudden desire to accuse each other of perceived sins and bring punishment down upon them in the form of violence. It's a good thing that they heal quickly here then, isn't it? Any injuries they receive will knit themselves back up again within seconds, though the pain will linger.
Additionally, Marcoh and Koharu suffer the cost for indulging in the sweetness of a dream just a little longer. They'll find they're more susceptible to the sway of this place, more likely to turn violence toward the others and more likely to be attacked by shades of those they care for. Marcoh will find that every time he delivers a physical blow to something or someone else, he also suffers from pain as though receiving the same injury or damage, even though he's physically fine. Koharu will find that she has occasional difficulty moving freely, as though the weight of dozens of people are holding onto her and preventing her from moving forward without great effort. Siffrin and Firefly will find that they do not experience any additional effects.
Well, sinners—best get going.
(This is a FFA style post where you may all threadjack one another and do each other harm at your leisure! Feel free to comment to the sub-tl below for more specific flavortext and injuries as you traverse the landscape!)]
[Comment here for flavortext chunks and/or injury rolls! You're free to drop as many comments here as you want at any point throughout this section, i will beat you up lovingly every time.]
[After much struggle, the four of you finally make your way to the gate that you've been trekking toward this whole time. You may find the injuries you've suffered from that have previously healed are starting to ache even worse and open up again, though at the same time, your minds and emotions start to clear a bit if they'd been tampered with before. Also Koharu gets stabbed in the shoulder and through the left calf by falling shards of crystal at some point because anais didn't roll for injuries but i refuse to let anyone leave unscathed amen. Also x2 everyone fell into the acid river at some point so you all get some sweet acid burns in addition to the flower burns you probably have at least a few of. Richie is still out there somewhere...
As they approach the door, they'll each find that they are suddenly alone, their three other companions no longer beside them. It's only them and one other figure...]
[For Koharu, the figure standing in front of the door is Aki. She stands in the form that Koharu might remember from when they were both in high school together, young and splattered with blood that isn't her own. Her eyes are filled with accusation, and she seems both hurt and furious.]
Are you going to walk away again, or will you finally give me some of your time?
[She'll instinctively know that she needs to get past Aki and leave through that door, but it seems like that task will be easier said than done. What does she try first?]
[For Siffrin, the figure standing in front of the door is Bonnie. They are bleeding from the eyes, mouth, and ears, but despite that, Siffrin will still be able to see the fiercely hateful way in which they regard him. There is a fury here that will be difficult to quench.]
You just stood there. You watched me die and you didn't do anything.
[They'll instinctively know that they need to get past Bonnie and leave through that door, but it seems like that task will be easier said than done. What do they try first?]
[ for firefly, the figure standing in front of the door is herself. she stands in the form that firefly would most recognize when she looks into the mirror, all soft curves and dainty features. however as she approaches, she'll feel her own form begin to change. not this version of her that's just like any other girl—but instead the sharp edges and destructive capacity of her as a weapon. a creation of destruction and nothing more.
the girl in front of her, the normal one she wants to be, looks at her with a betrayed gaze. ]
What are you even doing anymore?
[ firefly will instinctively know that she needs to get past herself and leave through that door, but it seems like the task will be easier said than done. what will she try first? ]
[ for marcoh, the figure standing in front of the door is venere. who else could it be but her? she stands in front of him with a haggard, unkempt appearance, as one might expect from someone who's been forced to be on the run. she looks at him with disdain and frustration both. ]
And what are you going to do now? Leave me again?
[ he'll instinctively know that he needs to get past venere and leave through that door, but it seems like the task will be easier said than done. what does he try first? ]
[For better or for worse, you've all reached the end of your trials. You have been given a glimpse into the false and sweet life you could have had, and left it behind. You trekked across the expanse of Hades, hurting all the while. You stood and faced the one person whom you feel you've let down the hardest in your life, and through whatever means you could use, you set their souls at ease.
The enormous door creaks open before you and, exhausted, the four of you—who can see each other once more—may all take your leave from Hades together, to reemerge on the other side(s). You aren't dead dead just yet, after all. Though penance may still be the path that you walk in the future, it would be remiss to pass over the chance to return and repent while still alive, right?
Upon returning, they'll find that the previously healed injuries they sustained in their trek across Hades have reopened to varying degrees so Firefly doesn't die right away help, and all of the damage that they suffered from otherwise is also still present. They'll be wearing their cute fantasy French outfits that are now so crispy, and their items will be waiting for them in their rooms.
Marcoh finds that it's difficult for him to remember the person that he faced at the gate. There is someone who is waiting for him, someone who he needs to reach but—ah, who is it again? Why is he trying so hard? The memory may come back in a flicker, and all the guilt of forgetting her rushes in, but she may be gone again in the next moment.
Firefly struggles against her sense of self. She's Firefly, isn't she? Or is she just SAM? What is the difference between the two, if there is any at all? Sometimes, she lapses back into that dream, that memory where she is just a normal girl trying to improve the lives of others. Sometimes, she gets to experience a perfectly normal Modern AU of who she is where nothing hurts at all.
Siffrin will be plagued with hellish Apollo's sight. Every now and then, while they're talking to someone, they'll see a vision of that person dying in the near or distant future. The closer they are with the person, the more horrific and gruesome the death. Sometimes, the death occurs as a direct result of Siffrin's actions (or lack thereof)—but of course, the vision clears eventually, and they're just left with a lingering sense of dread.
Koharu finds that she's compelled to go out of her way for other people to a ridiculous and potentially harmful degree. Any request that's asked of her, she's compelled to accomplish, and if she thinks someone needs help, she'll try to do so in the most extreme way (think lying down over a puddle so a person doesn't have to walk over it themselves). This compulsion comes and goes.
Additionally, all four will periodically be unable to feel physical pain, though the sensation of touch in general still seems to be working. They will also find their thoughts feeling particularly distant every so often, like their minds blank out without warning. This will last through Friday evening.
They also each receive: a palm-sized and very cute knitted doll of the person whom they faced at the Gate that brings them a sense of comfort whenever they hold it close, and a single black lycoris blossom snapped from its stem, which will wilt and wither over time like any other dying flower.]

SIFFRIN
You just stood there. You watched me die and you didn't do anything.
[They'll instinctively know that they need to get past Bonnie and leave through that door, but it seems like that task will be easier said than done. What do they try first?]

END
