[ The path seems to curve into a spiral, leading them on further and deeper into the caves. The sobbing gets louder for a second before it cuts out when Uruha calls out. The buzzing sound also stops abruptly.
Then it starts up again, so soft it's almost impossible to hear, as someone speaks: ]
Don't--don't come here. I'm okay. Please go.
[ It sounds like Koharu to Uruha.
Lucas can only hear pained cries. There are no words. ]
[He's just assuming Uruha can for some reason be able to tell that it's Koharu from the sound of pained crying alone. But! Since he can't hear the voice telling them not to come, he just keeps following along after Uruha. SURELY THEY CAN CARRY ONE MORE PERSON ANIMAL WITH THEM.]
[ The rabbit doesn't pronounce itself on what it sounds like, because, like, it has no idea who Koharu is.
At the end of the spiral, there's a dead end. Or, well, sort of a dead end. It appears to be the yellow tunnel leads to a massive chamber with an equally massive wasp hive, buzzing softly. Unlike the picture no wives are currently out of the hive and it hangs precariously over the floor. There's a silhouette on the ground under the hive.
Uruha will recognize this as a small bird person; more precisely, as Koharu. She looks like a dove. Her wings are curled protectively around herself, though it's evident one of them is broken with the bent feathers and the blood. One of her legs is straight up missing. She sobs even more when she spots Uruha. ]
No... No, you have to go, it's not safe! Leave me!
[ For Lucas, well.
It looks like an oddly familiar flesh monster, with teary blue eyes and too many appendages. It is currently feasting on an animal, though all he can make out is a yellow dog paw. He does not hear anything but pained cries.
[well, uruha has no idea what lucas is seeing! so he stares at koharu for a moment, and then he looks at lucas.]
Stay here. It might be a trap.
[unfortunately or fortunately, even in the midst of everything, uruha is a pragmatist. he's also aware that sometimes you have to leave your friends and allies behind when they tell you to, which is why he's not going all in for saving koharu, but—without knowing what the danger is, he can't just ditch her as the first resort either.
[URUHA IS TRYING SO HARD TO BE A PRAGMATIST AND SMART EVEN WITH HIS DAMAGED SANITY STATS AND THEN THERE'S LUCAS who sees one of those awful creatures and a yellow dog paw and immediately loses so much of his logic.]
—Nadia?!
[He will at least allow the bunny to hide in his shirt and he's still keeping a protective arm over it but he's also now trying to dart past Uruha despite him being like STAY HERE about it to get a closer look. He is so uncaring of this hive of wives but he's also not out here trying to antagonize it either, he is just singlemindedly focused on paw.]
Uruha asks a question and Lucas steps closer, so from that point of view Koharu curls in on herself even more. She screeches: ]
No--stop--the wasps! The wasps, don't come closer! They'll kill you!
[ Lucas cannot hear this wasp warning, though the buzzing does get more intense as he walks closer. The monster's wide eyes turn towards him. It looks injured. The strange pained noises are coming from it and not its victims, now? Or maybe it was always coming from the crying monster? The yellow paw is attached to a yellow dog, and it is even a person type of dog because it's dressed...
though hey, good news! Lucas can now tell it's not Nadia.
It's Yves instead!
His smile wavers as he mouths a completely inappropriate hello, monsieur lucas through the blood pooling in his mouth. Or what's left of it. He must be so happy! The monster ate his scar away. He has no flesh on that side of his face anymore. ]
[LUCAS IS JUST LOOKING SO INSANE YELLING PEOPLE'S NAMES RANDOMLY WHEN ALL URUHA SEES IS KOHARU. HE ALSO DOES NOT HAVE ANY WARNING ABOUT THE BEES so he's going to try to get closer even though there is both a (PAINED???) monster here and a hive of wives. HE HAS NO FLESH ON THE SIDE OF HIS FACE BUT IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL IT'S OVER LISTEN.]
Yves, hold on—!
[HOLDING BABY IN ONE ARM AND BRANDISHING A KNIFE IN THE OTHER he's going in and trying to see if there is any angle he could feasibly grab Yves from without having to engage in combat.]
[ "are there wasps" my god. there sure are, my dudes.
The noise and the proximity is enough, and slowly some wasps start to make their way out of the hive. At least five of them. Sorry. Also, are these bitch wives wearing armor? Yeah. They're not attacking right this second, but they are hovering menacingly, and will probably not stay still for very long.
The rabbit is squeaking because IT notices the wasps THANK YOU. From Uruha's pov, Koharu struggles to drag herself away from Lucas, bringing herself closer to the hovering wasps. ]
You have to run--! They'll kill you!
[ on the alternate vision side yves does not have much capacity for speech, though he is looking at lucas with oddly bright eyes. eye. singular eye, the other one got eaten.
The monster is draped over him, not chewing on him anymore as it trains its many eyes to the wasps. It starts to crouch lower on top of Yves, dragging him further towards the back of the cave, making an odd, protective noise about it. ]
[do the wasps look like they're hostile towards koharu at all? the fact that she's bringing herself closer to them is something uruha notices—and if it seems like the wasps aren't going to harm her, that makes the decision for uruha.
ultimately, ruthless.]
Lucas, we have to go! It's not Yves!
[or is it? it doesn't take a genius to realize that something is weird going on, with yves being able to hear the rabbit when uruha cannot, and now them clearly seeing different things. but it doesn't feel like they have time to sort out this dissonance right now.]
[Well. Does the odd brightness of Yves' eye happen to come from the glowing cyan pupil denoting a Reliver.
Because if so Lucas is immediately abandoning his mission and running back toward Uruha. IF NOT I GUESS HE'D AGONIZE OVER THIS DECISION A BIT LONGER despite the armor-wearing wives just hovering menacingly despite the fact that this child in his arms is squeaking, but i cannot tell you the immediacy with which he'd abandon Yves to his horrible fate if he thought that was a Reliver.
OKAY WITH IT CONFIRMED IT'S NOT RELIVER AND JUST ZIA BEING POETIC LUCAS IS DEFINITELY HESITATING AND LOOKS LIKE HE MIGHT TRY TO SPRINT AFTER THIS FUCKING MONSTER.]
anyway unfortunately it looks like Koharu was trying to distract the wasps from them by crawling closer pitifully, wings flaring as much as they can with the blood and brokenness of it all. Two wasps fly down, not being wives at all, stingers at the ready. They seem to be having trouble getting past her wings properly to attack her. The other three are starting to fly towards our duo.
Yves was CRYING and SMILING and tries to mouth go leave me at Lucas and ISN'T A RELIVER he's a GOLDEN RETRIEVER it's STUPIDER. The monster is snarling with wide eyes at the wasps, using its tongue as a lash to keep them at bay from its slowly bleeding out prey. i ALMOST wrote breeding out im in shambles now
but they can like totally just walk away. turn around. leave. in fact, the rabbit whispers as much: ]
uruha is pragmatic but honestly he doesn't like having to be cruel, and he's not going to run off by himself without lucas's express consent, so. if lucas is not escaping then even though this stupid fake french man might one day abandon or betray uruha!!!!! uruha is going to grit his teeth and dash towards him to try and fend off the wasps away from him (and himself) with the knife.]
[FUCKING HELP i like that uruha decides to join in instead of just dragging lucas out of here WELL!! THERE'S JUST CHAOS ALL THE FUCK OVER THE PLACE THEN!!! Uruha's out here fighting wives and Koharu's brave sacrifice is all in vain and Lucas is just attempting to use the fact that the monster appears to be distracted by the wasps to dart in close enough to grab for Yves' slowly bleeding out golden retriever body that is definitely not a Reliver. Though he will also speak to the rabbit:]
[ Koharu attempts to fend off the wasps. The monster attempts to fend off the wasps. They both fail; the first wasp is merciless, and its stinger pierces through Koharu's entire chest as Uruha watches, bursting it open like a bad alien parody, blood and gore from this sweet little bird. She chokes on blood and mouths one last plea at Uruha before the life fades from her eyes:
Go.
Lucas, meanwhile, sees it pierces through one of the monster's eyeball and back out of its mouth right at the same time as he darts to grab Yves. The good news is that this frees Yves from its grasp as it turns lax and slowly dies. The bad news is that it is dying on top of it, and that its tongue free falls from its defensive position attempting to stop the other wasps. Its trajectory would let it hit the rabbit, but I know how Lucas is so I bet he fucking turns to stop the rabbit from being touched by the gross tongue. Well jokes on you! It's constant pins and needles wherever he got hurt even if there's clothes in the way!!! dealer's choice for this one
Uruha manages to use his knife to skillfully block two incoming wasps at once, protecting Lucas and Yves/Koharu's corpse?/a bunny from the attack. He's so cool and talented and the wasps definitely didn't roll like shit. With two blocked and one incapacitated by being impaled into a. something. depending on your pov., that leaves two more heading their way. ]
[great this is horrifying and kind of traumatizing and two steps away from triggering uruha into a flashback about the last time someone told him to run and everything was horrible then too but if there's anything uruha's great at, it's killing his feelings in a crisis! who needs to process trauma when it happens when you can just repress that shit and unpack it later.
so he doesn't spare the dying-then-dead koharu another glance as he turns to focus on the wasps, blocking the two. thinks of how uruha still has a cold right now, actually. anyway, this cat furry currently has a heart of steel with his attention on the remaining wasps, ready for further combat as lucas does whatever the fuck he's doing.]
[You do know how Lucas is, that's exactly what this asshole does as soon as he sees any part of this monster heading their way. Gross!! He can deal with that on his right arm, yay. But he'll just dart in and put his monstrous strength to good use for once, using his free hand to try picking up the monster and the wasp stuck in it so he can hurl that in the direction of those two other wasps that are heading in which is going to look so horrific to Uruha but it's fine.
Having done that, he will turn his attention to Yves. HOW BAD IS IT CHIEF... Unless he's like just half a body in its undeniable final dying moments, he'll also move to place the dagger in his mouth and heft Yves up and then turn to try booking it back toward Uruha. HE IS CARRYING SO MANY THINGS.]
[ Yves isn't quite half a body, but the scarred side of his face and throat have been chewed open. He's missing an eyeball. He's got one pawed arm around his torso, holding his guts in place so they do not spill out. His breath comes out in little wheezes. Is this enough for Lucas to try to save him. I'm assuming yes for hilarity of him trying to carry ALL THESE THINGS. The bunny helps by moving to cling to his shoulder to the best of its abilities. Or maybe it's trying to get away from the bleeding body. Who knows.
anyway so from uruha's pov, what lucas does looks like this:
He grabs Koharu's corpse, still impaled with the wasp, and when he pulls her up to yeet her, body splits in half with the wasp stuck to the top half. He yeets that half onto the incoming wasps. It bowls them over and they fall, the pile hitting the ground violently. That armor is heavy, yo. They're down but not out, but they do have to try to lift themselves up with their comrade conked out on top of them. Also a girl's half-corpse.
Then he heroically hoists the lower half of her body, which only has one leg, to carry that part out.
anyway option a that vision is enough to send him in a fit to overcome all emotions and slash the wasps away, opening up the exit once more OR option b he gets stabbed by a wasp because he cannot believe what he's fucking seeing, im giving jan the option. ]
well uruha does not exactly go into fits in battle even though this is feeding into his trauma about corpse desecration ALSO WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING so i guess he's getting stabbed.]
[WELL. WHAT THE FUCK. HE JUST WATCHES URUHA GET STABBED AND HE HAS NO HANDS LEFT AND ALSO CAN'T TALK THROUGH THE KNIFE HE HAS BETWEEN HIS TEETH AT THE MOMENT so he's just running in and attempting to wholeass kick the stabbing wasp out of the way so they can escape.]
[ WASP STAB TO THE SIDE. Hey remember that fun thing we gave you earlier. That whole "all injuries are 10 times as painful".
So Uruha has just been mildly impaled through the soft spot on his side and through his back, which probably feels pretty bad. It did manage to skip out on his organs and bones, though, despite what a doctor might tell you is possible. So that's the first problem. Do you know what stingers have? Normally, he wouldn't be feeling it so quickly, but he's just so sensitive these days. There's a mild paralytic poison running through his veins impeding his movements now.
Wooooooooooooopsiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie
good news is the kick lucas gives totally lands! they've got the exit clear!! bad news is
:( he's out of hands? uruha will simply have to power through. alas. ]
[uruha's general tolerance is pretty good but OW FUCK OW HISSING (AND SWEARING) IN PAIN well this is all pretty bad. still, he will grit his teeth and bear with it.]
Let's go—for real, this time!
[he will do his best to power through the poison and run towards the exit assuming lucas is also doing so this time...]
[YEAH HE'S DEFINITELY RUNNING TOWARD THE EXIT at least they're not being chased by anything right now so presumably Uruha's mild state of paralysis won't come back and destroy them just yet.
DOES THE EXIT LEAD OUT OF THE CAVES AND TOWARD THE MOUNTAIN OR DO THEY HAVE TO GO BACK THE WAY THEY CAME. Imagine they just have to go face new horrors in a different path now. Regardless, he'll be doing his best to 1) keep an eye peeled for further danger, 2) make sure he runs smoothly so he doesn't jostle his DYING DOG FRIEND or his child, and 3) watch for Uruha to make sure he's doing okay despite his injuries.]
[ haha yeah funny joke. the yellow path was a dead end with wasps yeah you're going back the way you came. the GOOD NEWS is that the wasps probably do not fit into the passage when it gets super tight and they had to squeeze in. their asses... are too big......
the bad news is that all of uruha's movements will now be stiff and like he's fighting his own body. rolling with disadvantage. the other bad news is honestly trying to walk while carrying someone else isn't like super possible in that passage but lucas somehow manages. i guess.
yves is not responsive currently. neither is the pair of legs uruha has to simply watch lucas carry. but the bunny is doing just one very long fearful squeak the entire time they are trying to make their way back. they can both hear that one. this is just an upset bunny noise.
the GREAT news is that now you only have three paths to check out. and also that one of these paths (the red) now has a cool little minecart available on the tracks. Huh. Neat.
there's dripping water in the blue and moss in the green so you don't have to go all the way back ]
