The former, certainly! [ having been outside a grand total of one (1) time ] The latter, less so. I've had a few drinks with dinner here and there, of course, and I had rye beer for the very first time a few weeks before... well, dying.
[ he laughs a little helplessly as he says that, but otherwise doesn't seem particularly bothered by it. ]
But, to say I'm open to new experiences would be putting it very lightly!
Well then, welcome to the Confessional. Honored to serve you and all that. [ they begin mixing a drink though. ] Tell me something. Got a favorite fruit?
I think that's the first time I've ever been welcomed to confessional - thank you very much.
[ teehee. i am now forced to think about what kind of fauna and flora exist in convallaria so if this gets violently jossed i'm playing a side character.
taair taps his chin, thinking over the question, though... ]
Ah... I like strawberries...? Or perhaps peaches. They're quite light. [ and with a warm smile: ] I don't believe we've been introduced, yes? My name's Taair.
Sure. Probably not somewhere most people wanna be welcomed, but I think it's kind of an appropriate name for a bar. Confessing your sins over a drink and all that to a guy who's just here to listen. [ and so they work... ]
Taair. Pleasure. [ they do not give their name yet, concentrating on his drinkie. ] How are you liking the place so far? Besides, uh, the whole "how you got here" part.
Is that so...? Well - If you're the listening type, I'm sure I have a story or two for you.
[ no name... he notices this!!! don't think he didn't!!! but he doesn't push it or anything for now, propping his chin in his hand instead and watching them work with curiosity. ]
Would you believe me if I said I'm enjoying myself quite a bit? Whether with or without how I ended up here.
And I'll gladly hear it. You can call me a being of intrigue. [ sometimes you are just an entity that likes getting to know people if they allow it. so why not open a bar? the name isn't even a secret, they really are just concentrating on their work. ]
I would, yeah. I heard the Big Axolotl in the sky and the angels worked pretty hard to get this place ready for you. Tried to make it as nice and comfortable as possible.
A being of intrigue... that's a long name, but I suppose I can't talk!
[ lightly teasing in his tone there. he settles, content just to watch. ]
Comfortable is a good word. [ though, honestly, it's a little disconcerting. he won't say that out loud, if only because the echo of familiarity to it is just that - an echo. ] And... comforting, that our outer limits have seemed to expand, bit by bit.
Oh, yeah. Heaven isn't just this place, there are all sorts of islands out there. This is just the small part you guys are staying in. So I've heard. Everybody else in this place has already been sorted and sent elsewhere. I kinda like the idea of constantly expanding though.
[ it's less like a cage. but that aside, they soon set down a strawberry daiquiri for him! ]
Order up, strawberry daiquiri for Taair. Served by Gabriel. [ since yeah, they got the hint finally. ]
the smile on his face warms with the name - a little wry, but very genuine, as he takes the drink. ]
Thank you, Gabriel. [ very much giving off animal crossing flowers kind of vibe as he takes the drink and examines it like a nerd, sniffing it and then lifting it to his mouth. ] Expanding is nice, isn't it? The idea that one could explore and explore and explore, and never quite find a wall - it appeals to me.
Islands do make sense, too... I quite enjoyed taking that fantastic contraption to explore around earlier - [ the train. he means the trains. as he says this, conversational, he takes his first sip - and makes a surprised noise, blinking as he looks down at it. ]
Oh...! It's good! There's really alcohol in this...?
Yeah, it... definitely appeals to me, too. Not that I'm unhappy with this gig, but you get it. Knowing there's more out there is pretty nice when it wasn't an option before. [ they seem to be trying to think of what he means. ]
Con— do they not have trains where you're from? [ but they seem pleased. ] Glad you like it though. The flavoring of the fruit masks most of the alcohol. You can always make a drink stronger, but you can't take back what you've already put in.
You can say that again. I'm quite excited to see what else is in store - hopefully a library.
[ taair nods, taking another sip of the fruity drink as he does, up and down. ] I've never seen anything like it before! We have mine carts, of course, but- it's amazing to travel so quickly! Apparently, the technology here is even behind for some people... to me, it's like a whole new world.
And I will keep that in mind! I guess I ought to be careful and not drink too much, so... I hope you don't mind if I savor it and spend a bit more time in your company, friend.
[ YOU CAN ASK I ACTUALLY HAVE A YEAR!! FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE this is what happens when you play a historian ]
It is, indeed, "blowing my mind". [ taair says with a laugh, but as he considers his drink, he pauses, replaying back what they just said. now wait a minute. ]
...Gabriel... you aren't an angel as the other three are?
Mm... yes - but tensions were already running quite high. Hopefully, now that some pressing questions have been answered, things will settle down, and those who found things a bit rougher will have their common ground. If not, then I'm sure between all of us we can mediate until it works out.
[ taair pacifist khalisa nasir ]
But, I'm inclined to agree... I enjoy their company, so far. Inconveniences of timing are inconsequential, in the end - we can hopefully now start anew. [ he's just happy to have friends? or more people to talk to. though!! gabriel's point is just stirring up his curiosity, and he props his chin back in his hand to study them for a long moment. ]
I'm curious, then... what class does that make you? [ scooting forward in his chair a little and like, actively chinhandsing. ] Would you tell me a bit of your story, Gabriel?
We'll see. If it's all the same to you, I'm staying in my bar and out of all that. [ you guys are the angels' problem now. ]
I can't say I mind spending time with them either. We've all got separate jobs, but sometimes we'll meet up for drinks. They're easy to talk to the longer you know them.
[ they are adding some booze to their glass, but taair will get the sense they are raising an eyebrow. ]
Not much to tell, really. Let's just say I'm still finding my class. The Big Axolotl in the sky had a job opening here, so I took it. Pretty straightforward.
They are quite easy to talk to, I agree - as are you.
[ a very warm and genuine statement, which is perhaps up to this point not surprising. he looks at the drink while they're making it as if he will recognize anything in it (he will not), but otherwise just seems perfectly content to chatter and sip his little drink slowly, happy to soak up someone else's company. ]
I see... [ not much to tell! ] Have you been here very long?
Well, thanks. I'd be a poor bartender if I couldn't talk to my guests. I've never run a business before but this isn't a bad start.
[ if they can make one person happy, then okay. they are making a peach daiquiri. ]
A little while, yeah. I've lost track of the time but it's been a lot longer than before you guys were set to show up. Heaven's a little eternal that way.
[ taair is a shut in so is his opinion really that valid? hard to say!! but he is supportive nonetheless. and also getting a little pink cheeked from his booze. ]
That makes sense. [ considering their glowiness, at least... and the whole eternity thing. ] I suppose it feels a bit silly to ask if you like it here... It is paradise, supposedly.
...Out of curiosity... do you remember much about what life was like before...well, death?
That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me today. [ thanks taair, the opinion is valid no matter what. they finish making their drink and they lean against the counter, taking a sip to decide how to answer. ]
It's some idea of paradise, yeah. Nicer than most places I've been lately, but it almost feels like I don't belong here sometimes. But sure, I remember my life before. I can't say I miss it though.
[ there's a little crook of a smile on his face in response to that - i can't say i miss it though. also that's a shame they deserve more compliments? rude ]
I think I understand the feeling, some. [ though that's extremely complicated. ] Was it a dangerous life?

[ their body language is a little awkward, leaning a little further into the counter like they're adjusting their balance. and also like they want to disagree, but won't. ]
Sorry to hear that. [ because they can read between the lines here. ] It could be if you didn't know how to defend yourself. Most people learned early though. I'm... kind of glad for the chance to relax a little.
Right? Kinda doesn't match the whole picture. Think I'll skip the war for now. But...yeah. I think everybody wants to feel safe and secure, but there are a lot of people who don't get that. They might not get it until they die, but then you think about what their life was like before knowing that peace. It's understandable why people dream of a place like this.

New to bars, or new to alcohol entirely? I've got a few things that go down easy to get you started.

It's a little behind but also the same as what I'm used to. Who said it was actually behind? This place must be blowing your mind a little.

Bar's open 24/7 for a reason. And I'd be kind of a shitty bartender if I chased my patrons out before they were ready.
