The skeletons are fake. No bone rituals involved. [ they seem to think of how to explain ] It's an old holiday that started off as wearing masks to ward off spirits of the dead or something? That's also what the pumpkins were for. But with time it evolved to kids getting dressed up in costumes and going over house to house to get free candy.

Yeah. There's a lot of different kinds of plastic, but they're all made of the same thing, so it's not too different from metals in that way, I guess. I'm not a builder.

Honestly, if you think that's trying too hard, you should see some of the haunted mansions people used to make. Paid actors pretending to be monsters and murderers while you walk through a house with a lot of fake spiderwebs and modified indoor lighting to make it spooky. [ they're not disparaging as they describe it though, at least not in tone ] Maybe that's the point. Turning something that would normally be actually scary into something you can laugh at instead.

It was the only way to do what I needed to. [ they pause at that and shake their head ] Or, well. I probably could give a hundred reasons, but if we're being honest, I think they all boil down to grief.
