[dang it's dark in here........ makes someone wish they had a convenient portable object that produced light............. but anyways]
I don't know.
[she also does not know what an elevator is i don't think so they can just take the stairs and probably get maimed on them it's definitely fine!!!
but as she walks towards the staircase (unless maomao saves us and knows what an elevator is) she'll run a hand carefully along the wall to see if she can feel a switch.]
[ the walkie talkies don't light up, but at least they make an echo-y radio static sound between each other when the button is pressed? ooo? maybe they can learn? maybe not. maybe all these items are going to be very funny for a long time.
there are unfortunately no switches on the wall.
There is, however, some weird...almost flesh-like texture to the wall. When the lights flash, she can see an odd kind of growth that seems to be going up, like a growing skin on the wall.
If you're not taking the elevator, let me know if you are taking the right or left staircase or if you are separating! ]
[ I just need to reiterate the state of these poor girls right now:
- They can't see shit and they don't know they are carrying a flashlight. - They don't know what walkie talkies. - They don't know what elevators are. - they are going to climb up all these stairs
Moving on. To the right, to the right! Up the stairs they go. Their robotic steps echo loudly on the metal staircase as it leads them up. In the flashing red lights, they can spot a poster taped to the wall that says WATCH OUT FOR RATS - VERY HUNGRY. The drawing of a rat on the poster looks pretty bad, but it's hard to see and properly judge in the darkness.
The right staircase leads them to the second floor. It looks a little less empty than the first. You'd think this was the ground floor, actually, because this floor seem more like a traditional building lobby. There's tile on the floor, places to sit (couches, perhaps? shaped like couches?), tables, vaguely vase shaped decorations, a counter with no one standing behind it... There's the silhouette of a robot lying down on the floor in front of it, actually. It doesn't look injured, and it's not making any noise.
They can keep going up the staircase to the next floor, or go check out the floor robot. ]
she should probably hold a wrench, but she wants a hand free and the walkie-talkie is in the other hand. ]
I don't. The robot earlier was trying to get a signal from a device he had, so I wonder if these could also send or pick up signals. [ she doesn't see rat poster because she's too busy making the walkie-talkies make the cracking radio sounds.
once they are in the new room, she will put the device into her pocket and look at the robot on the floor. she will approach it, but try not to get too close. ]
[luckily (?) she does see the rat poster, and to maomao:]
Have you seen any rats...? Evidently we should be cautious of them.
[similarly, she isn't getting too close to this collapsed robot. she's keeping an eye on the interaction, but she's going to go snoop behind this counter instead. anything interesting?]
[ Maomao is a few feet away when the robot drags itself upright by its elbows. It fumbles a little, like getting up is too hard. The display screen on its face shines with static like a broken television, a reference neither girl will get.
She's close enough that when the lights flash red now she can see the way it's missing a leg, wires chewed through. Its chest is visible now that it has dragged itself up, and that too is open, carved out like acid chewed through the metal. There's oil spilling from it like a parody of blood. It doesn't look like its voice box is working, because it makes no sound as it turns to look.
The letters flash on its display screen instead, one by one:
H
E
L
P
And then, a single emoji sign.
⚠️
Then there's a sound that echoes in the chamber right as the robot collapses, definitely unconscious because robots aren't people so they can't be dead. In the darkness, a bright eye glints from the robot's chest cavity. There's an odd chewing sound.
It's a little more visible when it crawls out. It chirps up at them in interest. Overhead, the speakers crackle for the first time in ironic timing: ]
Please remember to be careful of rats.
[ well it's fleshy and has four legs. sooo. hey do you guys think this is a rat? ]
[ They can turn around right back to the stairs they came from, sure! There might be another staircase somewhere on this floor as well, considering it's quite massive, but I can see why they would feel disinclined to explore when there's this little guy over here being a little ominous. Please note it's the size of a small dog.
They have both mostly frozen in place so the rat(?) slowly crawls out of the robot fully, shaking itself off and scuttling closer at a brisk jog. It coos at them.
And then the sound echoes. Once, twice. Thrice. And in the darkness, they can see bright yellow eyes opening as more of the little creatures start to scuttle out of their hiding place in interest.
[ Maomao manages to scrape by and dodge the scuttling creature closest to her when it leaps for her as she runs back the way she came. These things have a lot of motion range. That's not great. Back up the stairs she goes, but she might want to make a pit stop as three of the little rats(?) decide to team up to tackle Neverah right as she gets back to the staircase.
The first one jumps down on her from above, landing directly on her face (or what passes for it recently), obscuring about half her vision as it latches on and starts chewing. The other two land on her left leg, slowing down her steps. They are also attempting to chew through her clothes and her current metal body. What a way to find out that robots feel pain!
She can probably keep running with them on at the number they're at right now, but she should probably shake them off sooner or later.
There are currently six other rats(?) in the room with them still heading their way. ]
[bluescreens for a second before her screen turns bright red. angy.
she can deal with the two on her legs for now, but she shrieks a little when the first drops onto her face, immediately trying to pull it off and stab it with her pipe.
if thats successful, she'll run to the staircase while internally praying the other rats dont get to her.]
[ They're not too hard to shake off if you try hard enough; the trick to these is clearly for them to hunt in packs. Neverah manages to take off the rat(?) on her face, leaving behind a thin crack over the screen vertically that sometimes leaves her vision on the right side either completely dark or oddly pixelated. When it's pixelated, she will swear that she sees people she knows in the corner. These vanish whenever she turns to look.
She can stab it with her pipe, but unless she decides to leave the pipe inside the thing, it will bounce back and start approaching them again alongside its compatriots. It gushes an odd kind of goo and isn't doing well, but it has a single-minded approach to life that goes Feed Feed Feed.
Neverah makes it to the stairs with Maomao, who will unfortunately only be successful in whacking one of the creatures off her legs with that wrench.
The rest of them follow after with an excited cry, eagerly trying to run up the stairs with them. Unfortunately this is the open staircase plan without doors to let them into the floors, so they are not stopped by the stairs and will follow, though they are small enough that they are definitely slowed down by it.
They can either run back downstairs or go up to the third floor and following. Also, let me know if the girls are paying much attention to their surroundings while keeping in mind it is still Dark As Shit in here. ]
they have to go up so maomao will be heading up to the third floor. she is going to be paying attention to their surroundings to look for a door or to be sure they don't have more cursed creatures climbing out of cracks or something ]
[she does not leave the pipe inside it, so they will have to worry about one more flat. it's fine. she tries to run even with the one creature still trying to chew through her clothes - her goal now is to get as much distance as possible between her and the others.
between the darkness, her impacted vision, and the sight of familiar faces every so often, she's too distracted to be doing a great job at paying attention to her surroundings as they move to the third floor.]
[ The good news is, by the time they reach the third floor, the last creature clinging to Neverah has been fully shaken off by movement alone. Maomao is paying enough attention to notice that the walls look oddly flesh like as they climb up further on this staircase. There also something that looks like little glowing orbs growing out of the flesh above them.
The creatures are many stairs behind and seem to be losing interest the more distance there is between them and the girls at this point. At least two of them seem to have fallen off the stairs entirely in their quest to jump for them too, landing a full storey below with a splat that does not answer if they survived the fall or not. It does not seem like these creatures chase forever.
On the third floor, they have as always the option of continuing up the staircase with its growing masses or trying to cross the floor to see if there's another way up. They can observe that the third floor seems to have been dedicated to recreating an open office floor plan; empty chairs and computers lined at desks. There doesn't look to be any dead robot on the floor or suspicious non-rats on this one, but again. It's dark as balls in here. ]
[ For the damage, on top of the cracked screen, there's a small metal chunk missing in Neverah's leg. It is not leaking and there are no exposed wires though! Wow. If only you guys knew how to translate this to human wounds.
While they make their decision, there's a fun sound in the background. It seems to be coming from the flesh walls. Well, that's fine.
There is no sign of disturbance on the third floor. ]

so let's head for the stairs! though the walkie talkies making noise. she will press the button a few times to see. ]
Do we want to split up or go together?
no subject
I think we should stay together. And - be careful about touching anything.
[since it might be flesh adjacent which i hate. let's go to the [spins wheel] right staircase. as she watches maomao press the walkie talkie buttons:]
Do you know what they do?
no subject
- They can't see shit and they don't know they are carrying a flashlight.
- They don't know what walkie talkies.
- They don't know what elevators are.
- they are going to climb up all these stairs
Anyway, what was on the wall surely isn't important. Maybe all walls slowly become made of flesh after some time. It's not like it makes a gross noise when you touch it or anything.
