soon, all of you are standing in front of the pit from siffrin's dream. just like the dream, the pit goes on forever into a dark, empty abyss.
you all get the sense you have to climb down, and the trees buzz in excitement. so what do you do? how do you use what you have to make the passage safetly? ]

Finally they arrive wetly to the hole. Marcoh starts unwinding some rope. ]

[ stares down at pit? the only reason that yves isn't volunteering to go immediately is because he has no way of communication in case he finds anything. ghosts don't get phones. but if siffrin is going as well... ]

with marcoh holding the rope, siffrin can begin the ascent down into the pit. it is... extremely dark. it's dark, and still wet, and it's hollow, the passage growing a little tighter with every inch down they go. the further they descend, the sooner they'll hear the sound of buzzing, the sound of thousands of wings beating at light speed, of bees bursting to life in a cacophony of sound.
they can't pinpoint where they're coming from, but it feels close. the sound is loud and stifling, almost enough to trick siffrin into thinking the insects have arrived and are slowly settling on their skin, slowing down their progress. the bottom is just beyond reach, but there are holds in the side of the cavern, little hand holds and footholes with a black, restless energy that wants to keep him from descending. so. any idea what you might want to do with that?
yves, meanwhile, can teleport right into the bottom. with a roll of 17, he actually gets to the bottom.
which is fine, because at the bottom is a large, bowled surface, a pit so deep with no other exit. and among this pit are hundreds of skeletons, all frozen in time.
marcoh and jiaoqiu, up at the top, remain unaware unless someone says something. this far down, yves will not be able to teleport back out though, and siffrin is so far in the pit it may take some sway one way or another to decide where to go. ]
[ Nope, he's fucking gone. Marcoh just sighs. Not him and his three water bottles who want to just do things on their own and keep trying to fuck off. This is going to be a long expedition.

Peering around for anything, catching sight of the the hand and foot holds - those would make it easier to descend the rest of the way down if not for the way it seems to want to stop him from going any further.
Siffrin gingerly nudges Chainsaw a little, debating sending her down to meet with Yves so he isn't alone while he fixes this. At the very least try to. Do be careful though sweet little raven. But first, a deep breath in.. and out. Resting one hand against part of the wall they can reach out to the forest, work with them. Instead of this black restless energy, something light and helpful. Think of moss, vines. Chase away those loud stifling sounds for something more quieter, calmer.
Work with them and not against. Especially to make things easier for the rest of their friends to follow. ]
[ and then he sighs. okay. well. he'll stay up here with marcoh for now, resting a hand on his arm to kind of just... stay steady. he can't help with the rope because he is a noodle, but he'll keep an eye out with the rest of the woods. i miss writing about his ears, i made a mistake. anyway, he stares out into the gloom, and listens very hard for the trees. ]
One moment. [ he murmurs to marcoh, and he'll just like... open his senses a bit, hold out a little rope to the trees, so to speak. are they saying anything? warning for anything? he'll give over to the forest if he needs to for a little extra insight. ]
yves startles and the first thing he does before going to explore is looking up to see if he can see any type of visual on siffrin, and then calls out above: ] Siff! I'm down here! Can you hear me?!
[ like maybe they can do some sort of horrible game of telephone in the pit to let them all know they can try to drop one by one and yves can try to catch them? he's probably solid enough that they won't splat on impact? maybe? he doesn't know how big this pit is.
but after he does that, he'll go to investigate the skeletons. based on their shape and size, can he tell what they were? humans? adults? hopefully no small skeletons but :(? is he standing on the skeletons because they line the floor or is there some room so that he doesn't kick someone's skill around on accident? ]
[ marcoh is a strong and steady anchor, and as he grounds himself into the dirt to hold the rope, it's...strange. it's a feeling that comes, something almost like power and confidence strengthening the length of the rope itself. you want that rope to hold, so by god will it hold.
as jiaoqiu listens for the trees, he will hear the repeated warning not to wake the third sleeper. it's more frantic now, a hushed whisper, more curious and urging to be sure they listen. they seem to want you to venture onward, believing you must see the pit itself to find further answers. the trees also begin to speak...
"Make way for the Raven King."
that's new, isn't it? but who is the raven king? you also hear buzzing among the trees...like the hornets approaching.
siffrin hangs from the side of the pit, alone in their little catacomb-like holes. chainsaw takes flight, and you, siffrin, who have a deep connection to this forest, find that if they concentrate, the darkness of the hand and foot holds begins to fade, inky black giving way to soft green moss and gentle vines that hug along the wall. the process is slow, slower than you may like, but it's working. you may even be able to climb your way back up to guide your friends down.
as for yves, the pit is still just a little too far down for siffrin to hear much other than indistinguishable yelling. but worry not, perhaps your friends will join you soon. in the meantime, this pit is fucking massive. like arena-sized, nearly, twice as long as is wide, and all around are animal skeletons. horses and elk and cat and weasel, all shapes and sizes and even some extinct and mythical beasts. they reside in this pit, poised as if they're simply standing, frozen in time and unable to move on their own.
sort of like you, huh, yves? don't you also rely on the strength of others and their attention to you in order to carry on?
looking around, there are ferns and moss on the ground of this pit, and high, high above you can see little pinpricks of light and clouds. very unlike the tunnel you all came through to get here. there's enough room to walk carefully, though you may need to weave around some skeletons lest you kick them over. chainsaw lands on the head of an irish elk and caws. greeting? unease? who can say. ]
[ Slow is concerning, a brief wonder if maybe it's because of themselves but they chase that thought off. So long as Chainsaw makes it all the way down with ease, and while they could take the way back up to help guide - their attempts do still at that indistinguishable yelling from below.
Okay, well, maybe not. Just keep their focus on trying to make the descend for their friends as safe as possible to join them. It's fine, they'll be fine. Climb down, move the rest of the way and hopefully regroup with Yves and Chainsaw both. See that they're fine. And then see what to do from there.
So with one tug of the rope, he'll make use to slide the rest of the way down carefully towards the bottom of the pit yippee with careful brushes against the moss and vines. Gentle, gentle. Carefully now. ]

[ yves speaks calmly to the bird as he carefully moves around, trying not to step on any of the skeletons. he doesn't travel too far, because he's waiting for the others to arrive, but he does go to inspect the skeletons. if he places his hand upon them, is he able to find any injuries on any of the bones? ones that have broken? or did they all simply stop one day and... wither? ]
siffrin, since you didn't actually communicate what you're doing, now you are at the bottom of the pit with yves and your friends above have zero idea they can just climb down using the hand and foot holds. there is a tree up at the top, but tying the rope to it means it's shorter now and won't reach the bottom.
also, now that you are in the pit, the creation of the holes into moss and vines begins to waver, and thick black masses begin to rise up. uh oh sisters. maybe think of what to do about that.
you're with yves now! and yves, you can feel a sense of magic thrumming through the bones, like a bit of a vibration. there are cracks of course just from being old and worn, but nothing significant.

siffrin did a good job at the bottom with the vines and moss, but the concentration for the ones closest to you has wavered. maybe you should have gone back up to guide them, siff, because now the rolling black, buzzing ball of shadows appear to crest over the lip of the cavern to make their way to marcoh and jiaoqiu.

He'll offer a quick whistle to Chainsaw, to hopefully help Marcoh and Jiaoqiu. Give them an extra eye for whatever they're dealing with up there.

so - if the shadows are coming after them, he's going to lead the shadows off to get splashed on. it worked before! he only has so many things he can do!! ]
[ okay. siffrin is able to create some vines to stepladder their way up, but it's going to take some time to reach. it's not out of range, but it will be slightly slower than it was growing on the way down. poor yves is stuck, though the ground does rumble a bit around all four of them. fun!
the swarm starts to head straight for marcoh, but jiaoqiu distracts them just enough to begin leading them back toward the mountain pool. you know the forest. cabeswater knows your goal and the roots of the trees begin to part, a canopy clearing opening to pour in some light, but they're still gaining little by little.
marcoh, you have an option of waiting for siffrin or chasing jiaoqiu. siffrin, you have a choice of continuing to climb or wait with yves. jiaoqiu, you have a choice of trying to reach the pool, or breaking off into a separate clearing of trees to throw the shadows off the path. chainsaw soars overhead, but the shadows begin to follow her, too, some coating a wing and causing her to struggle. she's a fighter though, and she's doing her best to keep up with jiaoqiu and beat them back. ]
[ Well he did yank the rope up, so upon seeing no Siffrin at the end of it, he just curses a little under his breath. UNKNOWING THAT SIFFRIN IS COMING UP AS THEY WAIT, he has no choice but to go, right?? ]

This is ridiculous --
[ he's so ANNOYED by the shadows. but it doesn't matter now because what jiaoqiu is going to do is try and lead the horrible shadows away from marcoh. whatever he can do to get their attention, he will, because if they can just make it away from the shadows to like - the water? that's where he's going. theoretically he should jump in the pit or something but he's not going to do that because he likes his legs unbroken. he knows the forest wants them to go down there but he needs to not be eaten, first.
so - if the shadows are coming after them, he's going to lead the shadows off to get splashed on. it worked before! he only has so many things he can do!! ]

the swarm starts to head straight for marcoh, but jiaoqiu distracts them just enough to begin leading them back toward the mountain pool. you know the forest. cabeswater knows your goal and the roots of the trees begin to part, a canopy clearing opening to pour in some light, but they're still gaining little by little.
marcoh, you have an option of waiting for siffrin or chasing jiaoqiu. siffrin, you have a choice of continuing to climb or wait with yves. jiaoqiu, you have a choice of trying to reach the pool, or breaking off into a separate clearing of trees to throw the shadows off the path. chainsaw soars overhead, but the shadows begin to follow her, too, some coating a wing and causing her to struggle. she's a fighter though, and she's doing her best to keep up with jiaoqiu and beat them back. ]

[ WE'RE GETTING SEPARATED ALREADY NOOO. He's quickly wrapping up the rope and grabbing his flashlight instead, beaming it at the shadows like maybe it'll do ANYTHING as he gets going to chase after both Jiaoqiu and Chainsaw. Wherever it is they're going, surely it's much safer to not be alone? ]
