they head to the elevator and presumably put their two keys in to activate it. the elevator is this big enormous stone disc and it moves basically horizontally over a huge open expanse, a crevasse that goes down further than you can see. a funny thing about this elevator is that it is bugged and sometimes it just glitches out of existence and kills your whole party.
but that does not happen today. instead, it descends, letting you off in a room. the room has a pool with steps leading down below the surface of the water, and then at the back there is a large statue of a woman with a headdress covering its eyes.
her presence is imposing. intuitively, immediately, your mind flashes to memories of that woman in the mask and hooded cloak, even though this woman is not dressed that way at all. it probably isn't the same woman, but it's the same feeling. her approval is everything. her disapproval is terrifying. but the things she may ask you to do to gain her approval are equally terrifying.
at the feet of the statue is a spear. it looks like a pretty fancy and important spear, and maybe you had wondered whether the nightsong was some kind of weapon or not, but this isn't it.
but it is important. it's a gift, a boon, for one of you to take, just lying out at the feet of the statue.]
before they will just wander away from them and just try to climb around... the pool... instead of swimming directly across and see if that works... they do not announce this so they are really just quietly stepping away. ]
but sorrowglare can easily do that yeah this isn't really like a puzzle or anything it's just a room with an awkward pool in the middle. you do have to climb a little to go around but it's doable.]
[ they are still just going to climb around... they are good at it... athletic ability is amazing, babey.
SORROWGLARE!!!! will like. if they are able to safely get to the other side, and if they can get there first which i would assume so since they had a head start is just going to go for the spear. does anything happen. do they explode. does a clown jump out and shoot them. is there another barrier that yeets them at mach fuck across the room. ]
[he does get to the spear first, and is the first to put his hands on the spear for sure.
so, once he touches it, the statue and spear both light up, and you hear a voice in your heads.]
Descend. Take my spear. Destroy the Nightsong, and you will be rewarded and rise.
[so, it seems you are being told to make your way down the stairs the lead into the pool - it's a staircase that continues down, underwater.
also, the spear blinks out of existence. but it isn't gone. it will be available to you when you need it, though as the one who touched it, sorrowglare may be the one it comes to. we'll just have to see!
you can go ahead and start heading down now, except there is just one problem.
there were actually three trials in the gauntlet, and you skipped one.
there was a door upstairs that said Her Most Hallowed Mercy. all of you may roll a d20 for figuring out what that trial is about.
but in the meantime, some figures start to creep behind you, out of the darkness. four figures to be exact. other people, though you can't make out exactly who they are right at this moment...
but one of them chucks an entire pig's head directly at basilio. it beans him in the head full on, knocking him prone for this round and getting pig's blood everywhere.]
[the blood is whatever. she doesn't care about that.
here's what she does care about: this is obviously a battle, now, and the other side clearly started it? so.
she's throwing one of her bottles of alchemist's fire at the figures. close has to count in horseshoes, hand grenades, AND bottles of alchemical compounds right??]
wis'adel throws a bottle of alchemist's fire at one of the figures.
at the same moment she does that, one of the other figures throws a bottle of alchemist's fire at her. the bottle smashes against her and will immediately explode into a fire propelled by the mixture. sort of like a molotov but stronger. the figure wis'adel threw the bottle at also screams as she catches fire.
the tallest figure is the one who threw the pig's head. he emerges from the darkness. you see a copy of basilio, except his eyes are entirely jet black, with black sclera. he's holding the ax above his head, but he's making a beeline towards basilio's prone body, not currently trying to attack anyone.
the girl on fire, screaming, is a copy of koharu. she won't do anything this round except catch fire, so good job. but it probably isn't pleasant to watch a version of koharu be on fire.
the one who threw the alchemist's fire is a copy of wis'adel. that was also her turn, but her black eyes are locked directly on the real wis'adel. she wants to fight you and you only, you can tell by that gleam in her eyes.
and then, sneaking around in the dark is the small copy of saber. saber may be trying to create some distance, but this copy is creeping around the edge of the pool, trying to close that distance.]
[oh, of course. she laughs, sharp and delighted, as that copy of her makes the exact same move-- even as it ends in, you know, setting her on fire. wiš'adel just throws herself into the water as quickly as she can manage, dagger in hand when she surfaces.
[so, here's how it goes the next round. for ease of knowing who is who, i will call all of you by your real names and the clones will be called "wis'adel" "koharu" "saber" and "basilio"
so basilio will go after gloomfang, who is lying prone on the ground. he has an identical ax to the one gloomfang is carrying, and he will raise it above his head whenever gloomfang tries to get up to drive it down into him.
griefblade throws herself in the water and extinguishes the fire, but in the pool, she has less balance, leaving her vulnerable for when wis'adel lunges at her, brandishing an identical dagger.
koharu continues to scream, on fire, but will manage to pat herself out finally. and she will draw from her bag... a potion with a handwritten label that reads "insanity's kiss" and she will toss it at sorrowglare. hollowcry doesn't do anything this round. but when the potion hits sorrowglare, they will feel a frenzy come over them. they'll attack whoever is nearby, whether they're on his side or not.
saber lunges at sorrowglare with the sword, leaping to drive it into them.]
[she does have less balance, true, but now so does her clone! girl help we are in the water... it's fine. sorry she can't fight without being unhinged about it.
anyway this is all to say that she takes the dagger without trying to dodge, because what she's doing instead is trying to grapple and drown her clone.]
[ Oh. Oh no, this is a fight. Koha ahem, sorry, Hollowcry glances between everyone, clones and all, frantically backpedaling to find a corner to obscure herself in. ]
Aaah, what should I...?!
[ Maybe there's something in her pouch?! She'll start rummaging in a panic, eyes darting between peeking what's inside and keeping an eye on everyone else. ]
ok well, he’s been very powerfully prone for the past few tags, which is totally fair and valid, karlach did it so many times on my bg3 run because i have terminal “doesn’t look before i make my team power run through grease traps and then wonders why they ate it”itis, and karlach is absolutely perfect and has never done anything wrong in her whole life so i feel proud.
he does in fact try to get up, so give me the axe. he’s got a hand on his own, so he’s gonna try and deflect it but i would love a little axe wound somewhere please and thank you. ]
well, the good news at least is that the closest thing to them at this exact moment is the person trying to kill them. sorrowglare will try to dodge, but not like trying to move entirely out of the way. they're going to allow themselves to get hit just so they can get closer to saber and drive their own sword through their neck. hi. ]
[all of you failed your rolls but since becks is awake now, i'll tell you the rules anyway. it's pretty straightforward - you have to kill these guys. but specifically, you should be trying to kill your own double. a half remembered poem or saying, the most hallowed mercy is death. grant yourself death. you can attack the others too, even kill them, but if someone else kills your double for you, you may get a small punishment for that. also, the doubles are exact copies of you guys, meaning they have exactly the same things in their inventory at the start of this fight as you do.
griefblade is drowning her double, but wis'adel isn't going to give up so quickly. she's struggling back, trying to move so she drives both her horns and the knife into griefblade's side.
hollowcry is panicking and rummaging through her pouch. could she possibly have anything useful? meanwhile, koharu draws a gun. she will attempt two shots. one will be at hollowcry and it is up to you, anais, whether it hits or misses and where it hits. the other one can hit the first one of you who wants a little gunshot wound.
the ax will crunch into gloomfang's side, leaving a deep, nasty wound. but he's at least standing now, so he can fight back.
sorrowglare can drive the sword into saber's neck, yeah. they dodge to the side, but it definitely looks like a pretty fatal wound. they aren't going to give up, though. while still standing, they're going to try to cut sorrowglare to ribbons, bring them down together.]
no subject
[can they get this over with or WHAT.
she also feels like shit, but hell if she's letting anyone else see that too clearly. she can keep going.]
no subject
Right... Let's go.
no subject
they look at the three of them, deeply unhappy about all of this, before sighing. ]
Right. Let's get this over with.
[ hurries over to this elevator!!!!! ]
