okay!! yippee!! bas will navigate his way around carefully. after a few experiences with the purple forcefield light, he'll be very cautious not to brush against it and get himself thrown away again. he can already feel the bruises forming under his very bitten skin at this point and he'd rather not subject himself to more.
when he slips through the final gap and reaches the altar, he stares at it for a good long moment, like he's contemplating something. and then he'll pick up the knife, spinning it around to point the blade at himself, then saber, then the altar. ]

he did put himself up for this one so he'll pull a face and then wander over to the altar. he rolls up his sleeve and, after a moment of hesitation, makes a quick slice on his arm and lets the blood flow down into the bowl. ]
[it seems your offering was accepted. a glowing orb appears, ready to be taken. you can take a moment to regroup and discuss, or you can choose a door to unlock immediately.
well, time to waddle back with their weird orb and rabies. when they get to the doors, they look at the two options, considering... before nodding and putting it to the treasure one. ]
as a reminder, this is a door that has the inscription Her Most Vaunted Treasure on the inscription outside. the orb fits perfectly in the door, and the stone door rolls open.
inside there's another inscription on the floor. it reads The Soft Step Trial.
in front of you are two doors. you can tell the doors lead into what looks like a stone maze. but it doesn't look like a very complicated maze. the part that may be complicated is that part of the maze is shrouded in dark, but part of the maze is lit up, and there seem to be shadowy creatures moving around in the lit up parts of the maze.
you can also see another altar on a pedestal far to the back of the maze.
[yeah you can see everything just fine, except for the parts that are in darkness. the shadowy figures are literally shadows. they don't look... friendly?
what you were rolling for here was insight into how the fuck to do this puzzle. neither of you got it, so you're going to have to kind of guess.
saber tossing the apple wasn't a bad idea, though. it rolls into the maze. sort of rolls easily through one of the shaded areas, and doesn't seem to hit any traps. and then once it appears in the lit area, it hits something - it looks to be maybe a bit of tripwire that was hidden from both of you. it makes a loud hissing sound, and one of the nearby shadows, as soon as the sound happens, turns from the direction it was moving in and starts to rush towards the apple. it leaps on the apple and seems to vaporize it into dust.
... So. That thing's bad news then, yeah? Whatever that apple hit.
[ hang on, saber's onto something here. he's going to throw this rotten tomato real hard at one of the lit up walls. like he's trying to purposely do something that moves in the line of sight of one of the shadowy creatures. ]
An' it's gonna be a pain the arse to avoid runnin' into them.
[ by sticking to the darkness... saber waits for basilio to throw his tomato, before hurrying to a dark part of the maze, and pauses to wait for their companion. they do not venture too far because they need to see how the creature reacts to the tomato... ]
[the tomato moves in the line of sight of the shadow, which immediately stops moving back and forth like a video game npc and beelines right for it, to vaporize it.
saber can get into a dark part of the maze. basilio can as well. they can see that the next part of the maze is lit up. there might also be tripwires, but they're hidden, so they'll have to look carefully for them. but they can see that to get to the next dark area, they'd have to creep down the hall, around a corner, and either climb over or pick the lock of a small gate. and there's a shadow that keeps patrolling back and forth this way, too.]
he looks like he's thinking about something for a long moment. they've gotta get past this without getting caught, that's pretty clear from the way the shadows have reacted to both the trip wires and just straight up seeing anything move in this area. he leans a little to peek out and take and catch a glimpse of the shadow's patrol path before ducking his head back in and gnawing on his lip slightly. ]
Psst.
[ they know there are trip wires around, and he's a lot bigger and ganglier than saber is. it's just a case of what happens if they get caught, or if they get to the end. there's an altar there, so there's something to claim. and if they get caught do they just straight up die...? ]
[ and he'll dig in his pouch -- his stinky, stinky pouch-- for a moment. because while the trip wires are one thing, not being spotted is the other.
he digs out a potion bottle with a little 'aha!' and hands it to saber. one potion of invisibility. ]
Dunno how long it'll last so you might wanna floor it. I might not be able t'follow you though, if we're avoidin' those shadows. I can try, though. [ he does have a whole pigs head on him. ]
[ they take it... I DON'T THINK SABER KNOWS WHAT THIS IS ACTUALLY so they're like
does this make you fast. or strong. help. ]
... well, alright. What is this.
[ but also so we don't waste too much time, they will at least stare at the ground before taking a careful step forward to try not to spring anything... hm... do they fail immediately... ]
[nope, good news, you do not trip anything. and if saber drinks the potion, they are also invisible. bas, meanwhile, will still have to be very careful in the lit areas, with the shadow moving around. but throwing apples to distract the shadow is a pretty good strategy, so they can probably get to the gate with a lock on it with no problems.]
