anyway i am going to assume this is after face reveals, so that is to say zuriel's hanging out in the gazebo and trying to light the tree on fire with her eyes. this does not work!
but there is a laurence, so she stops after a moment and gives a little wave. ]
It'll probably take some getting used to, won't it? [ the lack of glow... ]
Thanks? [ funny. ] I promise you we didn't do this on purpose. Didn't know it would turn on, didn't know when it would turn off... it's been a surprise to all of us.
Yeah, Ramiel said we had to get used to being in heaven or whatever. It's fine. It just makes you look more human than before, instead of just the ones in charge.
[ that's getting a little too real though hahaha ]
[ she thinks about saying something, but then she decides even if he might understand that might freak him out so she leaves it alone. people aren't always so easily accepting of things like magic anyway. ]
I do like looking more human, I guess. [ haha. but she looks curious, like, immediately. ]
anyway he'll just offer up the bouquet: iris, purple statice, white bouvardia, myrtle, and ivy, tied with a white ribbon because there's a lot of green already. ]
I don't know much about bouquets or flowers, so don't judge me too hard, okay?
No. We don't even have gardens in the Tower. Maybe, like, a few flowers here or there, but nothing like here. I just tried to find things that looked good together.
You succeeded. [ turning the bouquet in her hands. ] I used to work with plants a lot for some of my jobs back home. Making wreaths and replanting flower beds and the like. I could tell you what they actually mean if you were interested.
[ how do you handle being told you did a good job ]
You mentioned that before... And I remember a few people talking about "flower language," but I'd never even heard of it before. [ hmmmm. ] Okay. What do they mean?
[ why are teenage boys so funny. she's kind of used to this behavior (for. obvious reasons.) so she's letting it slide. ]
Well, let's start with these. [ pointing at the iris. ] These tend to be associated with "hope" or "faith", sometimes even "wisdom" or "courage." The statice is closely associated with "remembrance", and the bouvardia's for "enthusiasm" or "versatility". The myrtles are for "love" or "loyalty", and the ivy's relevant to fidelity. Things that will last a long time. Mostly because ivy lasts nearly forever and grows endlessly.
They can mean slightly different things based on colors, too, but that's the gist of it.
Yeah. You can say a lot of things from one simple bouquet if you know what you're doing. But some people just put together what looks nice which is also fine. [ she shrugs to the question though. ]
I find it to be comparable to music. The words of a song are written with intent by the artist, but everyone's interpretation is different. There might even be people who don't understand the words at all, but you can feel the meaning behind it. Isn't that enough?
I guess. Sounds like "strong feelings" are all you need for a lot of stuff. [ music, flowers, demiflora abilities... ] Maybe I'm just not used to it... I mean, I only know about some flowers at all because me and Iris used to look up demiflora, but that didn't tell us anything about meanings.
[ shakes his head. ]
He'd probably think it's great there was a whole flower language out there.
Yeah, basically. I think it's better to feel something too strongly than to feel nothing at all though. I don't think there's anything wrong with not knowing yet, either. You wanted to learn once. You can always keep learning. There's a lot of things I've heard about that I don't know, but I want to.
I can learn about flowers, sure. It just wouldn't help me much back home.
[ what's the point when there aren't many flowers anyway?
he sighs, exasperated but somehow a little fond as well. ] Always has been. That's the big reason he was always getting into trouble - getting nosy about things that aren't allowed. Not that it ever stopped him.
Back on this again. [ she remembers they had a conversation about this and she's still not sure she gets it, or agrees. ] Have you never wanted to learn something just for the sake of knowing? In general.
Though it sounds like that really was more Iris's department. [ she is seeing a picture here. ] ... you're really not allowed to learn about some things in the Tower?
We're really not. And we can't all be as sheltered as Madam's son - if I got caught doing some of things Iris did or reading some of the books he found, I'd probably get thrown out for breaking the rules.
[ everyone congratulate her, she is actively trying to understand rather than saying "just leave then." if only because zuriel knows how hard it can be to leave somewhere you feel stuck in. ]
... why is that? Why are those particular rules in place? It feels more like Madam's doing everything in her power to control what you think and what you do, even if it's not all true.
Because demiflora powers are dangerous. And the whole point of the Tower is to give us somewhere safe to live like normal people. Normal people don't have powers like demiflora.
Normal people usually aren't oppressed and living in a compound, Laurence. [ but that aside... ] So it's more that she'll allow you to use powers if it benefits her and the Tower itself.
week 2, monday

Maybe. But I like you better this way.

anyway, flowers! these are very cute flowers, and she's taking the bouquet to look over each bloom. ]
These are pretty. [ wow, shock, local nature girl likes flowers. ] Have you ever put one together before? The ivy's a very nice touch.
