I find it to be comparable to music. The words of a song are written with intent by the artist, but everyone's interpretation is different. There might even be people who don't understand the words at all, but you can feel the meaning behind it. Isn't that enough?
I guess. Sounds like "strong feelings" are all you need for a lot of stuff. [ music, flowers, demiflora abilities... ] Maybe I'm just not used to it... I mean, I only know about some flowers at all because me and Iris used to look up demiflora, but that didn't tell us anything about meanings.
[ shakes his head. ]
He'd probably think it's great there was a whole flower language out there.
Yeah, basically. I think it's better to feel something too strongly than to feel nothing at all though. I don't think there's anything wrong with not knowing yet, either. You wanted to learn once. You can always keep learning. There's a lot of things I've heard about that I don't know, but I want to.
I can learn about flowers, sure. It just wouldn't help me much back home.
[ what's the point when there aren't many flowers anyway?
he sighs, exasperated but somehow a little fond as well. ] Always has been. That's the big reason he was always getting into trouble - getting nosy about things that aren't allowed. Not that it ever stopped him.
Back on this again. [ she remembers they had a conversation about this and she's still not sure she gets it, or agrees. ] Have you never wanted to learn something just for the sake of knowing? In general.
Though it sounds like that really was more Iris's department. [ she is seeing a picture here. ] ... you're really not allowed to learn about some things in the Tower?
We're really not. And we can't all be as sheltered as Madam's son - if I got caught doing some of things Iris did or reading some of the books he found, I'd probably get thrown out for breaking the rules.
[ everyone congratulate her, she is actively trying to understand rather than saying "just leave then." if only because zuriel knows how hard it can be to leave somewhere you feel stuck in. ]
... why is that? Why are those particular rules in place? It feels more like Madam's doing everything in her power to control what you think and what you do, even if it's not all true.
Because demiflora powers are dangerous. And the whole point of the Tower is to give us somewhere safe to live like normal people. Normal people don't have powers like demiflora.
Normal people usually aren't oppressed and living in a compound, Laurence. [ but that aside... ] So it's more that she'll allow you to use powers if it benefits her and the Tower itself.
[ later, she will wonder then why laurence is allowed to use his powers to try and find iris.
and she would keep arguing this, but maybe it isn't worth the headache when things are already unsteady here. ]
... if you're certain then. I just don't understand how someone could be satisfied there knowing there's more outside. Even if it might be dangerous. [ which isn't really a jab at him so much as her going "i have spent my whole life wanting to go elsewhere so it's hard to understand." ]
You think? [ they would, because all of my children are cut from the same two pieces of fabric and i hate it. ] I can think of a lot of things I'd ask him, at least. I have a lot of questions about demiflora in general.
I doubt he'd be able to tell you much more than I could, considering we grew up together. [ ... ] There's an encyclopedia of demiflora that I was starting to read through, though. There could be a copy of it in the library, I guess.
I might look then. [ ... she hesitates for a moment. ]
My own powers aren't the same as yours, I think, but I'm curious about the comparisons. That's all. [ for as straightforward and sensible as zuriel actually is, she is not exempt from getting caught up in the whimsies of her curiosity. ]
My family's filled with psychics, but mine are a little different than that. [ how to explain. ] I'm like a battery. I would make a power like yours stronger, I bet. Anything that needs energy, I can boost it.
[ there are more things to that, but that's the easiest one to explain. ]
My dad was one. [ she is in fact half a tree spirit because for some reason, this made sense. ] So maybe? I've always felt better connected to trees anyway.
[ back to the powers... ]
I think it's more dangerous for whatever is getting the boost. I have ways to protect myself from someone accessing my energy, at least.

[ iris again... ]
Iris is the curious type, isn't he.

You sound like Iris. You two would probably get along.

There are beings known as tree lights. Those who can embody the trees, and those who can reflect abilities back. I have some of those powers.
[ she says this fairly hesitantly because having an answer for her abilities is still sort of new.

[ teasing because everyone keeps asking him that, may as well throw it back at someone else while he has the chance. ]
I could see how powers like that could be useful... but dangerous, too.

[ what do you mean it's legit what's he supposed to do with this information ]
But no, that's what I meant. Like if you boosted Iris's power when it's already so versatile - he'd really be able to do anything he wanted.
