[ good day, neverah! today, zuriel is browsing some of the souvenir shops on the boardwalk. currently, they seem to be picking through some postcards with generic bikini bottom scenery. they get the sense they're being looked for though, and they look up to catch her eyes before they tilt their head. ]

Hey. I don't think we've met yet. [ the way they say this sounds a little polite and... sort of a customer service type of voice, like they aren't sure if neverah is actually looking for them specifically or not. ]

Yes. Your information said "sensible", so I was hoping you're more competent than the other one I spoke with.

[ oh, rip gamaliel. that makes them laugh a little incredulously, but they don't seem to mind. ]

I try to be competent, yes. Something I can help you with?

[darkholder]

They mentioned that returning home was one of our options should we succeed - I'd like to know about the other options.

[holyspirits]

Depends on God's judgment. If you prove yourself redeemable, or at least a sense of what could be "good", you always have the option of staying here. But if your behavior slips further and you're deemed less safe for heaven... that'll be up to God and where you go from there. But it won't be somewhere you know, or somewhere you like.

And if we do go back, will we be in the same state we were when we died?

[holyspirits]

I very much doubt you'd go back to being dying, if that's what you mean. What would be the point otherwise? You'd have to discuss the finer details with God, but they wouldn't give you a second chance just to send you straight into failure.

week 0, sunday

[holyspirits]

[ after execution, ramiel takes the train back to the neighborhood, and then just sort of hangs out at the little train station. they sit down at the stop with their hands folded in their lap and just stare out at the sky and its reflection and the fog.

they give neverah a little nod but seem kind of at a loss for words for how to greet someone after all of that. ]

[giving them a little nod before getting right to business, as she does.]

I don't suppose you know why things played out that way...?

[ they let out a sigh. not at the questions just the situation. because: ]

No. That's not what it was supposed to be like.

Then why did it change? Did your god change their mind?

[holyspirits]

No. No, definitely not. They wouldn't want this either.

[darkholder]

...Then either you're mistaken, or someone has a higher level of control over these proceedings than they do.

[ ramiel is out in the market in whoville. the time is up to you, because either way they're just idly poking around at stalls.

when they see neverah they straighten up and put their hands behind their back. ]

Someone offered this to me, earlier... I was wondering if it was another - glitch.

[there's just a half second pause as she tries to remember the word]

I didn't ask for their name. They looked - strange. Some kind of creature I don't recognize. It came with a variety of other options, though. A pen, a letter, a bandage...

[she does not know what a zine or a teddy bear is]

[ after execution, ramiel can be found standing out in the gazebo by the garden, arms crossed as they lean over the railing.

they straighten up for neverah, though. ]

[ they hesitate, a pretty clear sign that they're not doing super great. but ultimately they decide to shake their head. ]

At this point, is the option to pause this program now still on the table?

[holyspirits]

The... issue that has come up with that, would be that disengaging from something in progress could result in the loss of all of your souls. And until we know exactly where the lost souls are, that's not a risk we're willing to take.

... Why is that a possibility?
