Rhodes Island landship. I stayed here a while back, and I've been doing some elite ops for 'em recently, so I guess it's gotten pretty familiar.

And what are elite ops?

Yeah...? It's always been Rhodes, even when it was run by Babel.

[what are they so confused for... she doesn't know an america]

And it's what it sounds like! I work as an elite level operator.

What do you operate?

...oh, I get it. I'm not a machinery operator.

Rhodes has its own paramilitary forces. That's what I do.

And Rhodes fights for the Sarkaz?

[sarkazm]

Soooort of. In the sense that we ended up needing their help, or at least the help of their leader.

[debating how to explain this succinctly.]

They fight for everyone, sort of, and for a cure for the Infected, which most Sarkaz are anyway! But that ends up getting them involved in a lot of conflicts-- so they were smack dab in the middle of our so-called Regent deciding he was going to take out the rest of the damn world.

That... sounds complicated. So it's an alliance of necessity, but also dragged you into new conflict? Or... dragged them into an ongoing conflict?

[sarkazm]

They've always been in the middle of conflicts, more or less.

... they're the kind of people who really want to fix the world. Like-- genuinely. Not just for their own benefit.

[holyspirits]

Then it sounds like a very good thing that you were working with them.

[sarkazm]

Yeah, sure, I guess.

The organization they used to be-- Her Highness started it. So in a way, they're what's left of what she wanted to make.

[holyspirits]

Her Highness?

So it's a royal military?

[sarkazm]

Nah. She didn't create Babel under her authority as King, and it wasn't made to be a military. More like-- she knew some things were gonna need force, and it was gonna need a solid defense.

[holyspirits]

[ oh... lady king. NEAT. ]

I'm not sure I understand the distinction. But I suppose every world has such complex and unique history that this isn't a surprise.

[ they peer around the area again. ]

It's fine. Clean, no exposure to the elements, people mostly leave me alone... plus my old squadmates work on contract with 'em.

Your entire squadron didn't join?

[sarkazm]

The ones I used to work under did. Doesn't mean we're contracted at the same times or for the same missions, though.

Oh. Well... What sort of missions do you usually do?

[sarkazm]

The kinds that take hitting 'em hard and fast, and making sure they blow sky high if they manage to escape.

[ they do feel more comfortable with her saying these things after finding out she works for an organization that genuinely wants to improve the world. ]

That does sound kind of cool. Like a spy.

But the kind in movies that blow things up instead of real ones.

Yeah? What do you think a "real" spy is like?

I suppose that it's subjective depending on the world you're from. So from yours, of course, "real" spies may deal in explosions.

Where I'm from, their greatest goal is to be unnoticed and leave no traces of their existence. So, no explosions.

[sarkazm]

We've got some like that too, sure. Intel gatherers and whatever.

What I take care of, that comes after the intel.
