Fine by me. If it's gonna take explaining more than one thing, I'm out!

Why not? It'll keep people from trying to talk my ear off.

Who says I can't? I've got better shit to do than listen to people like that hag who have to go on and on about how something works instead of just giving you a straight answer!

It's just a waste of time to keep blabbering about your theories on interactions of compounds or whatever instead of spitting it out and saying "hey, this is probably gonna explode".

An example of the kind of bullshit I prefer to skip. If you want an example of the way she always is, it's more like "ooh, we're in some universe or whatever, I'm not going to give you any useful information, I'm just going to talk forever about hypotheses and theories and then get annoyed you tried to do something instead!"

Enemy, but it's not like blowing up is that big a deal. Been there.

And it took a lot of bad luck, plus an insane explosion that wasn't actually my fault!

[huffs.]

I'll take it over the alternative, anyway.

Oripathy. [a dismissive lil handwave.] It's what'll kill most of us, if we live long enough, but I'm not thrilled with the idea of going out on anything but my own terms.

Terminal disease back home. Plenty of people have it, we're just likelier to get it than most. Lucky us!

[pulling her right jacket sleeve up, briefly, to show them a few lines of black crystal growing on her arm.]

Anyone who's got this? They're definitely Infected.

Of course they're looking. As far as I know, they've got nothing, but Originium is some seriously weird shit.

I guess it works in their favor sometimes... but it's too widespread for them to be confident they'll never get it either.

[in part because-]

Originium causes it-- and also fuels most of our tech, so good luck getting rid of it! They can't put that one back. Can't undo figuring out that it powers and amps up Arts either.

It's definitely not that easy. Just trying to figure out how it works at all is apparently a lot.

[but she doesn't care about science.]

One of those situations where we've been damned if we do and damned if we don't, you know? Catastrophes would've wiped our cities out if they didn't use Originium tech to build moving ones, so... either get destroyed by storms full of it, or get killed slower by exposure.

Pretty much! And by my lifetime, we were already deep into that.

[she's never known anything else, she's more than young enough for that.]

I wouldn't say it was. Somebody- [thunking a fist on the cannon] decided to fire an airship's cannons at a furnace full of pissed-off revenants! Bad luck for me, that's all.

[she exhales a huff.]

Better than wasting away and turning to Originium dust, but as deaths go? Not my favorite. I'd rather have blown myself up on purpose.
