[HELP CHILDREN REALLY ARE THE FUCKING WORST SOMETIMES. Lucas loves them anyway. He will deal with figuring out the rest of this later even though he feels badly for lying to this lion that's sounding genuinely concerned, it's fine.
FOR NOW, HE POINTS WITH HIS FREE... PAW. AWAY FROM HIMSELF, OVER IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. AND ALSO RAISES HIS VOICE A LITTLE HOPING TO OBSCURE ANY FURTHER SMALL FEAR NOISES goddammit little rabbit.]
Ah! Wait, I think I saw something sticking out of the bushes over there—? Just for a moment, but it looked like something moved!
[ well, the rabbits aren't wearing clothes. so probably it's fine! they can't be anthro rabbits if jan doesn't know how to spell it! The lionness claps her paws together. ]
Wonderful! You can stay and have some if you want, dear, or I can pack you some for your travels?
[ the lion, meanwhile, strokes the bottom of its mane as he thinks ]
I did see them. Warned them about the beasts in the mountains, but they were the stubborn sort. They kept going forward.
[ on other side, the rabbit is still squeaking fearfully. God damn, child, it's like you don't WANT to live.
At Lucas' words, though, the lion does turn around towards the bushes, raising his crossbow and holding out a paw as if to protect Lucas. ]
What? What did you see?
[ No longer in the lion's direct field of vision, the rabbit immediately tries to bolt. ]
[URUHA'S KEEPING HIS EYE ON THE PRIZE AND LUCAS IS SO FUCKING DISTRACTED BY THIS RABBIT. He will make a fumbling attempt to grab hold so this rabbit doesn't accidentally draw the lion's attention but he only has ONE HAND BEHIND HIS BACK so it might be able to get away HE'S STILL LOUDLY TALKING REGARDLESS.]
[ the lioness looks a little disappointed, but the lion steps out of the doorway. ]
Oh, alright then. Do take care! The mountain's awfully dangerous these days. Isn't that right, darling?
[ Right when Uruha is about to pass to exit, he's stopped by the lion's large paw on his shoulder. ]
It's true. [ a pause as he keeps his paw there. ] I've got a coat outside. Near the firewood. Take it. Mountain's cold, and that girl didn't look too good.
[ that said, he will remove his paw. uruha is free to leave and either go towards the firewood and grab the coat, or continue on the path.
Meanwhile, the rabbit nearly slips away successfully, but Lucas manages to catch it at the last second and drag it back! It's a good thing, too, because that grab is the only thing stopping the rabbit from being skewered by the bolt the lion fired when he turned around as he heard the twig from the rabbit attempting to dart away. It impales the ground.
The lion looks surprise Lucas is holding a rabbit. The rabbit is now loudly crying, unhelpfully. ]
... What are you doing?
[ Very baffled for a lion who does not seem too bothered by the fact that he almost skewered a crying child. I guess it's fine if the child isn't wearing clothes? This is getting uncomfortable. ]
[CHRIST HE IS LOSING YEARS OFF OF HIS ALREADY SPENT LIFESPAN. At least the immediate danger of the rabbit getting impaled was avoided... Though now he's standing here very obviously holding a rabbit who is crying so loudly.
...
He just kind of picks the rabbit up football style and tucks it under one arm and then goes to yoink the bolt from the ground so he can hand it back to the lion.]
You seem very kind, so please forget everything that's happened here today. I apologize for the trouble. I'll be leaving now.
[ The coat is the size of the lion and made of fur! I suppose if Uruha is trying to figure out what kind of fur.... It's rabbit, of course.
Yay! +1 inventory.
The lion is just staring dumbly at Lucas as he does this. The rabbit is still weeping and starts kicking out all its little limbs when Lucas does not RUN AWAY as it is whimpering at him to do, but it's not actively trying to wiggle out of the football hold.
The lion does not seem to notice that the rabbit is crying. Or talking. He gaves it a cursory glance before shaking his head. ]
It's not a pet, you know. But I can spare a rabbit if you feel that strongly about it. [ he takes the bolt back. ] If you're planning to head to the mountain, it could make good bait for the monsters.
[ he moves on, boots trudging loudly, and starts setting up rabbit snares all over again.
The child in Lucas's arm trembles and whispers: ]
Is that what happened to my brother...?
[ Maybe it means monster bait.
Maybe it means that the clothes on the line aren't clothes drying at all, it turns out, but rabbit hides drying out in the sun. ]
[he does not have a good feeling about this so -1 inventory, actually. he puts the coat back and quickly leaves the house before hopefully the couple can ask wtf he's doing. IF A SICKLY CHILD IS ALIVE AND NEEDS AN EXTRA LAYER URUHA HAS MANY OF THEM.
assuming he can leave, he will take a quick peek at the garden.]
[He is at least polite to this lion that seems not to notice that this rabbit is wailing and talking, because the lion was kind to him... But with the bolt out of his hand, he'll readjust his hold so he's carrying the rabbit properly like a lattle baby. If the rabbit is looking at the clothes, he'll follow the glance and probably notice the hides, which is his cue to quickly turn so the rabbit cannot look at them anymore.]
Let's get you out of here. [Said softly, and he'll turn to head back toward the path after that. MENTALLY HE'S LIKE WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING HERE but he has a little child to soothe.]
[ FINE, DON'T TAKE MY COAT. I LEFT IT FOR YOU!!!! IT'S WARM!!! IT HAS POCKETS.
Anyway, nothing is stopping Uruha from leaving. The lions are happily in their cabin. The garden is full of vegetables, like carrots, lettuce, pumpkins (are a vegetable), potatoes (also a vegetable don't @ me), etc. There are some snare traps laid around the garden. It's just a normal garden. He can pick some vegetables if he wants!
The rabbit is now a baby hiding its trembling, injured body against Lucas's chest. The lion does not glance their way as they leave.
Continuing on the path, Lucas will eventually reach a place where it looks like the two split paths are converging again. It no longer looks like any particular season; it's just the regular forest once more. I guess he has to wait now. Or like. Keep going and ditch Uruha.
[He will wait here for Uruha once he gets to the converging point in the paths! Just kind of standing there gently rocking this sad little trembling injured rabbit and making soothing little sounds. They're really just about to trek out into the mountains without any food or supplies at all and also a wholeass baby this is so funny.]
[ hey congrats! you guys have made it to each other again! reunited and no one is even injured! :)
The little rabbit seizes when it sees Uruha and tries to hide its face deeper in Lucas's arm, mumbling something that sounds a lot like "he's gonna eat me" again. Uruha cannot hear this, but he can see the rabbit.
There is once more a sign that says MOUNTAIN AHEAD, though this time it's very evident for both of them. They are at the bottom of the mountain, and the path is winding up now. ]
Oh— He's not going to eat you, I promise. This is my friend, Uruha.
[He will let this sad little creature hide away if it wishes, though, continuing to just gently rock it as he turns his attention back to Uruha. HE BECAME A PARENT AGAIN.]
I found the dear on a lion's property, caught in a snare trap... [Actually, he will speak to the little frightened rabbit:] The mountain is dangerous, my dear. Do you have anyone we can leave you with?
[NOOOOOOOOO. How the hell is he supposed to say no to this rabbit... who is looking at him so sadly, and speaking so sadly, and sounding so terribly young!! Saying words that Uruha can definitely hear!!]
...You understand that there are monsters up there, don't you?
[Though he'll also look back at Uruha with confusion at that hello, assuming he makes this statement after this rabbit very clearly answers him.]
... There are monsters down here, too. You saw. [ the rabbit says this in a terribly saddened voice, its ears drooping. it seems to have given up on arguing more than this, though, probably expecting lucas to abandon it to its fate...
[...WELL. THE RABBIT DOES HAVE A POINT in that leaving it here is probably not much safer. So he will adjust his hold, cradling the baby and looking toward Uruha.]
...You can't hear? [Speaking to the rabbit:] What's your name, dear? If you don't wish to stay here, then I'll take you along, but we really must be hurrying. We have to catch up to those two travelers.
[ Uruha is just standing there watching Lucas speak sweet nothings to this rabbit that is just, from his point of view, hanging out in his arms and trembling. It is not reacting to things Lucas is saying either beyond doing the animal [head tilt] when a noise is near.
In the more important Lucas point of view, the baby twitches its cute little nose ]
I'll be good! If you take me with you, I promise I'll be good! [ historically, this has not been true, but this baby sounds sooooo sincere. ] My name's Samura. I don't think your friend likes me.
[ that's why he acts like he can't hear him, clearly ... uruha is rabbit racist... ]
