[ at the bar... well, it's a tavern now, but you get the idea. gabriel is behind the usual counter and appears to be sitting with their legs crossed under them on the counter itself. there's a notebook in their lap and they're fiddling with a pen, staring intently at the page before looking up at the sound of koharu's footsteps. ]

Hey, Koharu. How's it going?

[cupidsammo]

Good afternoon!

[ She approaches the counter. ]

Sorry it's been a while. I had some stuff going on last week...

[holyspirits]

Yeah, I feel like a bar is the last place you should be when you lost your vision.

[ they heard. they also reach under the counter and pull out a can of cola to sort of wiggles it at her as if to ask if she wants it (or anything else non-alcoholic.) ]

But looks like everything worked out?

[ oh! she nods—yes, please! and Koharu will take that invitation to take a seat at the bar. ]

Mmhm, it seems like everything's back to normal... The other angels told me it was only going to be temporary, so I thought I'd spend the week resting up and waiting it out.

[holyspirits]

[ goes about pouring her a glass of coke before sliding it to her with a cute straw. ]

That's a smart idea. Smarter than some of you out there who love walking around with major injuries. [ some of you are going to give them gray hair. ] Losing a sense like that sounds like it'd be pretty freaky though.

[cupidsammo]

[ Awww, thematically appropriate straw :3 ]

It was pretty scary at first, but eventually it just became inconvenient.

[holyspirits]

As if we don't have enough inconvenient shit around here. [ they move to grab a beer, but then they seem to think better of it and grab a soda for themselves, too. they can also have a matching straw but it is green. ]

And what have we learned from that? [ it's light, more like a little joke now that she's actually okay, but also. ]

[cupidsammo]

Um...

[ sheepish soda sip ]

It's not going to happen again, I can promise that.

[holyspirits]

Good. [ a sip of their own, though they seem to be watching the soda go through the lil loop more than anything. ]

To tell you the truth? I might've had the same idea if I were you. Depending on how things were shaping up.

[cupidsammo]

[ ... ]

I was mostly just afraid. It felt like the safest bet at the time.

[holyspirits]

Afraid of actually being wrong, or afraid of contributing to the loss of someone good? [ it doesn't entirely matter, they are just curious. ]

[cupidsammo]

Mm... both, I guess. Since it was so close to time, and...

[ the options frankly sucked!! ]

[holyspirits]

And none of you should have to make a decision who to sacrifice in nine hours? Yeah. The whole thing sucks.

[cupidsammo]

Just a little... But we don't really have a choice until we find out what's going on.

[holyspirits]

It's frustrating. Knowing that God's supposedly working on this but not having any kind of answers or even knowing what can be done by all of you guys to make it better. Nobody wants to have to wait when people are dying.

[cupidsammo]

... Yeah. It's the waiting that's the worst, and not knowing how long that will be. It feels even worse sitting by while everything around us happens.

[holyspirits]

Yeah. [ god. ] ... if you had to pick, what area would you pick to focus on and find answers to first?

[cupidsammo]

[ Koharu glances up at them, eyebrows raising, before her gaze trails off. Briefly lost in thought, she fidgets with the straw. ]

If not here in the neighborhood, then... [ hm. ] ... We only had the beach available to us when this all started, right? So I would think maybe there's something there.

[holyspirits]

[ they consider this for a few moments, fiddling with their straw. ]

Right. That's not a bad thought. Pretty logical conclusion when you think about it. I think the four of them checked all of the islands inside this pocket already, but a second sweep might not hurt anyway. Especially if it's getting worse.

[cupidsammo]

[ a nod ]

I've been thinking about that text Anders sent out to everyone yesterday, too—it said to "look everywhere". So we probably shouldn't leave that only to the new stops we get without backtracking, right...?

[holyspirits]

It can't hurt. If whatever this thing is is smart enough to move targets it wouldn't surprise me if it was hiding places we would forget to check.

[cupidsammo]

Yeah... And the more that's open to us, the more empty certain spots are going to become.

[holyspirits]

The further you go from the neighborhood, the closer to home this thing can get. [ this sucks, actually. ] We'll have to be really vigilant in the next few weeks. Even if nothing comes from it, I'd rather say we tried than not.

[cupidsammo]

Then I'll try looking around more. I have enough time to spare, at least.
