I can't even say I disagree. [ this was exhausting to watch, even if it's depressing. ] But at the same time... I can understand wanting to keep people close. I don't blame Anders, but I don't think the way he went about it was the best.

I don't understand his bad taste, but whatever. Maybe distance will give him some perspective on it.

Never have been. He doesn't deserve all the loyalty Anders just hands him.

How do you know it's loyalty handed? Hawke could have earned it in ways we're unaware of.

[ they are not so much defending hawke as they are anders, actually. ]

I know Anders thinks he has, but honestly? Pretty sure he's just sticking with the first person to do the bare minimum.

Maybe. I don't know, Anders has told me a little about what Hawke means to him and what Hawke has done for him. I understand why he feels the way he does. Sometimes you can't always pick who it is that you're intertwined with.

Yeah? Did he tell you what else he's done?

[she huffs out a sigh, tail twitching.]

... just pisses me off that he's so defensive of a guy that didn't even try.

I'm not going to out what he's told me, but I know Hawke's hand in how Anders ended up here. [ they had a very long conversation about this. ]

But it sounds like you have a very specific opinion. Have you told Anders this?

Of course I've told him! How do you think I know he's full of excuses!

I sort of assumed you would feel the same way whether you told him how you felt or not, personally.

Hey, I'm not unreasonable. I'd have thought he was stupid, sure, but I saved the rest until he actually started making them.

Okay, start over. What excuses do you think he's giving out right now?

[sarkazm]

It's all, "oh, but you don't understand how much he's helped me when nobody else likes us, you don't get it, he does soooo much," but someone like that-- someone who actually gives a damn isn't going to just turn around and shank you once you dare to do something.

I don't care if Anders thinks he couldn't be helped. There wasn't any effort to help him.

... does it feel familiar to you at all? Having a person you trusted only for them to turn around and screw you over at a moment's notice.

...we had someone who was trying to change our situation, despite even her own people not always agreeing. It was easier to just keep going as we were, right? Why go against it? But she really...

She wanted us to be free. And she died for that, thanks to somebody she'd trusted to help her.

[ yeah, that's what they thought. you don't become so indignant without knowing what it's like, or having a similar experience to reference. ]

... that sounds noble of her to keep fighting for you. Dying for a cause and everything, even at the hands of someone she trusted. Did she know she would betrayed, you think? Any hint at all.

She was the King, there were probably prophecies or some shit? I never pay attention to that. But she...

Theresa could really look right through a person. If there were any hints, maybe she did know.

And yet she chose to trust that person anyway. [ interesting. ] How long ago was that?

Wait, is this that leader you told me about? That took out your best option.

A while. And yeah, they're one of 'em. Helped her out with her Originium research and everything, then stabbed her in the back.

I can't decide if it's better or worse if she possibly knew he'd betray her like that. [ because one is unexpected, but the other means she gave up her own safety anyway for a goal she believed in that someone ultimately snuffed out. ]

No wonder you're angry with him.

[sarkazm]

Oh, trust me, it can get worse.

The one who backstabbed her, they were supposed to be supporting her goals. But our Regent now, who was in on it...? That's her brother.

Why does it keep getting worse? That wasn't a challenge. Then... did they ever support her goals at all? Or was this all a part of a long plan of theirs?
