I feel a bit like a child standing in front of a row of toys and told to pick one. There are so many things to explore, and I barely know where to start! It's one of my very favorite things about being here, so far.

You're right that it's simple. You're playing as the ball in the maze, and you want to eat all the white dots. Don't get touched by the ghosts, unless they start to flash blue and white. You're safe when that happens.
[ they gesture to the joystick ]
Point in the direction you want to go, and that's it.
[ because getting flavorblasted by loud noises is a lot for one little shut in bird from the medieval peasantry.
he listens to the explanation raptly, the picture of a good student, and then nods, setting his hand on the joystick. it all sounds fairly straightforward. ]
They flash blue and white - oh! [ as the pacman jingle starts, he makes a surprised noise, watching the screen, and then starts to try to move the joystick? it takes approximately one second for him to run into a ghost while he's trying to get his bearings. ]
[ they are leaning around him to look at the screen because they are tiny, you can have that lore, and they do a bit of an amused gasp at the IMMEDIATE GHOSTIE ]
It's okay! You've got a few tries. Just run the other way if they come at you next time.
[ LITTLE... wow that's very little compared to all the giants in this game ]
Right. [ determined!!! he returns for the second pacman life and starts moving the ball around the maze. his movements are jerky because this is extremely new, but this time he manages to get across the screen. ]
Now, where did - [ as the pacman pops out on the other side and eats the big dot and makes the ghosts blue and white he just sort of !!!!!s ] Oh! The blue and white!!
Yes! [ cheering. it is a little condescending in tone, like when you cheer for a little kid, but just barely ] You got it! Okay, keep going. Until there's no pellets anymore, the game isn't over!
[ he does not even pick up this barely condescending because he is so enamored by the flashing lights and colors and the Spirit of Gaming. he is a gamer now
and so!!! nodding profusely, he tries to focus his energy on moving the pacman around to eat the ghosts. he manages to get one more and a few more dots, but as they abruptly change back from blue and white to normal, his little guy dies. ]
Goodness, this is fun! I see why there'd be a whole room full of these things... it's invigorating!

Glad you liked it. [ they seemed very fond watching him get into the Gamer Spirit and kept up the encouragement the entire time. ] It's a place for fun. I hadn't been to an arcade in a long time, so it's a good reminder for me, too.

For a while we were busy getting things ready for you guys. [ they crouch to look at something behind the machine? which seems to be the cables? ok ] But also arcade type games aren't my favorite. And they're more fun to play with other people around. At least for me.
