Yes! You get it. [ clasping his hands together happily, taair's smile brightens at the mere mention. he loves to learn! though...it does soften a bit after she answers. ]

...That's part of why I started writing it, you know.

To pass on your thoughts to people, even if you couldn't really meet them?

[ maybe? ]

That was part of it - and... it still is.

[ softly. ]

But... because when I was a young child, I loved to read travelogues and histories more than anything. My books were really my only company, besides my bird and my tutors, and the travelogues made me feel like I was the one traveling the world - while the histories made me feel closer to my homeland.

And over time, the more I read, the more I began to notice things. I started questioning why every book I had access to, nonfiction or otherwise, had a happy ending, and from there, my own research began.

[hotfixer]

I don't know much about what it's like to be trapped or completely alone, really. I always had my sister. And when I didn't, I was still surrounded by other people. And aside from a few restrictions, I've been completely free.

[ so she can't... totally relate. at least not situationally. emotionally though, maybe it's easier to. despite the differing situations. ]

Were you writing to give yourself a happy ending?

[historicals]

No.

[ no, there's no happy ending for taair, actually. ] I was writing to chronicle Iria's truths. But... it did make me happy. It gave me a purpose, which I needed. Desperately.

[ though, let's come back to that, actually. ]

You had a sister, Ramiel?

[hotfixer]

Is that different from a happy ending?

[ finding a purpose and doing something you love. they seem close enough, to her. ]

Yes, a big sister.

...No. Maybe not.

[ he'd never really thought of it that way, and it shows - taair sets a hand to his heart. ]

I suppose... I thought if I could teach even one person who wanted to know the truth of Iria's past, then my life would have been worth something. So... you're right, Ramiel. Maybe it was a happy ending, after all.

[ better than the future, at least. ]

What's she like? Your sister.

I think that a happy ending can be more about what you managed with what you had than accomplishing everything you wanted to.

[ shrugs! ]

She's kind of mean. Usually in a funny way. But she cares about everyone very deeply—so when she's mad, it's usually for good reason. And she's really, really smart.

[ watches these tags come in at the same time and nods to myself ]

I see. [ cute... ] I'm glad that you two had each other - I must confess, I'm a bit jealous! I would have loved to have a sibling.

[hotfixer]

It can be hard sometimes. Families drive each other crazy.

But I know that I'm lucky to have her.

Certainly so. Did you two get to travel together....? You mentioned the cold, before.

[hotfixer]

We did for a little while, years ago. Looking for the perfect UI.

But the cold was something else. Another time and place.

A treasure hunt...?

[ okay he learned what the internet was but UI might be over his head ]

Not exactly. At the time it was more like...

Hunting for a candidate to inherit a lot of power.

[historicals]

[ oh. interesting. ]

So...more of a succession. [ man. imagine choosing candidates for that. ] Were you successful?

[hotfixer]

Something like that. There was never anyone before them, though, who had that much power. At least, not without a fatal drawback.

[ she pauses at the question. ]
