Ah... that is the trouble, isn't it. [ locked away resources. tch! but he smiles anyway, never one to be defeated for too long. ] If that ever changes, though... I can only imagine the kind of wonders in a heavenly archive.

[ lightly, teasingly - he picks up a couple more books, happy. the titles are all over the place! there's a thin book with a sketch of a fox eared warrior on the front, and what looks like some kind of ancient battle record. there's also a copy of two treatises of government by john locke, a completely different history book that looks more modern, a book on technological innovations of the twenty first century, and one on different types of chess.

watch taair just light up at the ask, though. ]

A recommendation! Well, what kind of text do you want to read? That's the most important part. Something nonfiction, something fictional...?

I don't know... after this weekend, I could use a lack of excitement.

[ which is what will happen because surely everything will be fine and not have another murder

anyway. he hums, thoughtfully, thumbing through his stack, thinking, thinking, and then... ]

...Would it be perhaps a bit egotistical if I asked you - in your professional opinion - to read mine?

[ ah!!! he brightens too - the feathers on his furry week designated wings poof up a little happily with it. taair reaches for his holster, and pulls out his book, a nice red leather tome with the title embossed in gold. A Chronicle of Iria, and underneath, in smaller letters, Taair Khalisa Nasir.

he offers it to ramiel! ]

Iria has a long, proud history - but despite that, there is not a single full chronicle of our history. The only ones that exist are produced by the Papal States, and those histories are filled with propaganda. So... it became my life's work to change that, and create a chronicle of Iria's history, from the ancient period to the present day.

It's not entirely finished, but I am very proud of the work that I have done - though if you don't like it or find things to critique, I hope you will tell me so. I have plenty of time to edit, after all.

[ PLEASE HE LOVES THIS like his face lights up at the question. ]

An excellent question! All the sources I’ve gathered have been carefully checked and rechecked to corroborate facts - in places with a single source, I supplemented with records from unrelated, supposedly, events to put together details. Things like harvest and weather measurements, records of plague, and environmental studies- everything I could possibly glean to factcheck my own resources. I also spent much of my time debunking the Papal States’ version, which required an especially thorough hand.

Of course, I think there is always some manner of bias in every text. But I’ve done my best to be fair: and… well, I have an outsider’s perspective, honestly.[ there’s a soft, sheepish laugh. ] So… that helps, too.

[ ehehehe. ]

I would not want to produce anything less than the absolute best - to be truly comprehensive. In order to stand out among the Papal States' resources, I wanted to make sure there was very little argument to be made about the conclusions that I've drawn.

It's a labor of love, to say the very least. Though, the more I hear about these digital resources, the more jealous I am - it must be wonderful, to have information at the tip of your fingers...

[ there's a wistful little sigh, mostly because he doesn't know that the internet 2.0 exists and its a nightmare ]

I admit, though, I really enjoy the hunt - there's no feeling better than finding the perfect book, or the perfect record. But it would be nice to do it a bit faster... it's taken me the better part of a decade to complete as much as I've done, and I would have liked another decade to gather interviews and stories to fill it out completely.

[ :harold: ]

Mm. I enjoy all of it. [ with a little laugh. ] Having documentation is a blessing, though... my goodness, that must mean there's a lot to sort through! And I thought I had it difficult...

We live in such different times. I hope that my history will not feel too archaic to you, my dear friend.

[ ahhh... this speaks to him - his feathers ruffle once, pleased. ]

You know, I could not have said it better myself. [ truly. he turns his head to give them a warm smile. ] You must tell me more of your home sometime, you know. It doesn't have to be your story, but I would certainly love to experience it.

You must know I'll take that as a challenge.

[ sounds fun to him ]

Maybe you can recommend me some context reading beforehand?
