Well - it's a large city, and many of us are either from there or have connections there. So the hope was, in the Gate, we could find solutions for our current troubles.
But also, it seems that the foe we've been dealing with has its base of power there. We must stop whatever they're doing at Moonrise Towers, but the answers we're looking for will likely be founf there.
Any path to Baldur's Gate travels through Ketheric Thorne at Moonrise Towers. He was immortal, but the key to his immortality was the Nightsong. She was an aasimar, the daughter of Selûne, and his necromancer had held her prisoner for a century.
Just before I died, she was freed. I suspect she's going to get her revenge on Ketheric, but even if she fails, my friends will succeed.
I only worry a little... we did have a failsafe solution for destroying Moonrise Towers. [the gale blows himself up button...]

I'm confident about their chances because one of my companions may detonate a magical bomb, killing himself and maybe everyone else, but at least also likely killing these assholes. If I'm there, the likelihood that happens decreases.

Yes, well, why do you think I'd prefer to go back and help? I genuinely do think we can accomplish it without such extreme measures, but not everyone is sensible.
