I don't know if I like the idea that so many of you are used to fighting. [ what were you all doing, god. ] But it's different for all of us. For one thing, I imagine when you're fighting you at least know what to expect... right?
I observe and learn from the information I'm able to acquire. What they do, how they act, how they hold themselves, all of that helps formulate a plan.
[ nodding along. this sounds good. they like this, they appreciate that firefly seems to have a braincell rather than running headlong into a thing immediately.
(running in headlong after is perfectly fine though.) ]
And have your observations given you any sort of insight so far? [ questions, comparisons... anything. they're curious what the others might see while the angels do their own research. ]
I don't really know who the enemy is. Or if there even is one. I don't know if this is a one off, because of Mister Jing Yuan's age, or... Maybe there's something else happening.
It doesn't seem like this experiment group has any one unifying thing. There are plenty of combatants, but that's not all of us.
Outside influence doesn't reach heaven, so the call must have come from inside the house somehow? [ they appear to ponder this. ] How it affected Jing Yuan... people have said this might happen with his people. That maybe he succumbed to a madness inside of him. Maybe that's as simple as it is. We haven't been able to find any information on our side about something like this happening before.
I don't think it's rude. It's a smart question I would ask myself. This section of heaven was designed by us and by God, sealed tight to ensure you couldn't get out to the rest of heaven and nothing else could come in. There's a reason the train only makes select stops. But heaven as a whole has been closed off for even longer than we've been able to find information on. So the idea of outside influence isn't making sense.
That's right. Because you're all in a trial period with God, this place was created to be self-contained. Think of it like a safe. Nothing can get in without the correct combination, and the only person with that combination is God. And from the inside, there isn't another handle to open the door yourselves. It was how we knew what happened to Charlie must have come from one of you, even if we didn't know it was Jing Yuan.
God wasn't able to change too much about you that way. It was best to keep most of your biology in tact, such as the need to eat and breathe, so that the transition to go back would be easier. But any diseases you had should have slowed down their progress, or stopped all together.
With Jing Yuan, maybe it was just... inevitable, and too late to stop it.

Which is why she'll take a seat with them. ]
Yes, that's right.
... How are you?
no subject
Frustrated, I think. Much like everybody else I bet. But I think that should be my question for you. Are you alright?
[ it matters very little that this is the first time they've spoken. it's important to ask. ]

[ Everyone's trying to cope, as far as she's seen. ]
These last few days were difficult. I'm used to fighting, but this... it's different.

[ Sorry you got such a weird group in your experiment. There had to be better choices. ]
Yes. I'd usually know who or what I'm fighting against.

What do you do with an unfamiliar enemy or situation, Firefly?

What about you? Have you noticed anything?

Is it that outside influence doesn't reach Heaven normally? We're closed off from Heaven at large, so is it possible that there are some cracks?
Sorry if that's rude, I don't know how this section was constructed.

That's reassuring. [it should be.] So nothing should be able to come out or in to the parts we're able in.

... I didn't realize diseases would still be with us in heaven.

But... we'll go back with the same diseases, right? If we go back at all?

[ She's not mara-struck. She's still in control of her thoughts and body.
But she does nod. ]
Have you ever heard of Entropy Loss Syndrome?
no subject
I haven't, no. What is it?

[A slow, pained sigh.]
I'll slowly fade away. This process is barely noticeable to others... Almost imperceptible.
For now I can still do everything normally, talk, run, jump. Everything seems normal, but then you start doing things slower than others.
Then... even slower. Until the lines between your body and the world become blurry, the boundaries between them shatter.

Like becoming a ghost. It's genetic, you said? How long has this been a thing for your people? Is there nothing to do to stop it?

When I was alive, I was searching for a cure. I haven't found it yet, but I'm hopeful that someday I will.
no subject
Is that the main reason you'd like to get back to your world? To continue that research.
