It's a little bit hard to explain.

I'm used to a place that other people might describe like Heaven. An afterlife where they can do what they want and be who they want.

It wasn't exactly in an afterlife. It's just comparable. Some people would consider it one. But it's not that, exactly.

Think about it like this. You died, and came here. In that case, dying was just a matter of going somewhere new and not being able to turn back. Even if that new place is very different.

But that kind of thing could happen when you're alive too, couldn't it? So what's the fundamental difference between "dying" and "going somewhere new, alive"? Is there one?

I think some people would argue there is still a difference, but I get your point.

I won't claim that they're exactly the same. But they're closer than people think.

I feel like to most people, being able to traverse realms in general, living or not, is a big deal.

It is a big deal.

Where I'm from, it's a big decision with its own requirements. Age and criminal history can bar you from making that traversal. ๑﹏๑ And there are other limitations too for people like me.

Heaven also has requirements. Being a good person, mainly. And it's slightly more of a one-way trip.

Right. If we do end up going back and eventually die again, we're not ending up here a second time, right?

Correct. If you've already earned your redemption, the next time you die you'll be seen into Heaven right away.

Unless your character has undergone some drastic changes in your remaining time alive.
