taair hears the pop pops and looks straight back, but it is way too late - one second, hawke is rying to drape over him and the next, the water comes rushing in their direction. taair has exactly enough time to gasp in a breath, and somehow i rolled a 15 to not drown (yay) and then a 4 to swim back.
so
yeah man he's a scrawny little guy, and the power of the current is enough to knock him right off of his feet. taair has enough brains and instinct to suck in a huge breath of air before he's swept under water, but the swimming does not appear to be going well - his foot catches on something when he's trying to get his bearings. at least he's holding his breath! ]
So. Adolphe doesn't manage to hold his breath for very long, if at all, (2) due to the sheer surprise of suddenly seeing so much water crash in here, but he tries to grab Taair anyway (14) because he's also an idiot when it comes to other people he favors. ]
so i guess hawke gets to survive the initial hit by being draped on taair (15) and not facing the blast of water, allowing him the chance to slam his naginata into the ground before he gets swept away too (18), tch. time to go fishing for the rest of his comrades. ]

Well. He absolutely does not hold his breath against the initial rush and is swept back straight off the bat. HIS TOOLS!!! With a 13 he has to really scramble for them but he manages to grab them, albeit by being swept a stupid amount away from his comrades to do it.
Luckily he gets a 15 so he makes decent headway in the water getting back to them? He might actually make it!! maybe!!!]
Hawke and Taair prove to have wonderful lung capacity, and are not in any immediate danger of drowning. They can both band together to assist their other two comrades, who... admittedly, are not doing well!
Adolphe and Richie will find all the air expelled from their lungs in the initial rush of water. Richie can grab his tools and start making his way back to the door, yes. But both of them will start to feel that pressure in their chests, their bodies begging for air. Darkness will begin to creep around the edges of their vision, more so for Richie than Adolphe. But for now, they remain conscious.
Little bubbles of air burst from the seams of the door, promising sweet, sweet oxygen if they manage to get to the other side. It's just a matter of unlocking it while, you know, staying afloat and staying conscious in the near darkness. If there's anything good to come out of this, though, it's that there's a bit of moonlight filtering through the openings on the ceiling. Y... Yay.
Guess this all explains why there weren't any signs of injury on the skeletons they spotted on their way here.]
[ AAAA okay well listen, taair will immediately hurry to grab onto adolphe since adolphe grabbed onto him - he's holding his breath still, and trying to lift adolphe's twunk ass up to the surface to get him to breathe, too, kicking his feet against the current and swimming up to try and move them both back towards the door.
unfortunately i rolled a [2] but i rolled a [17] without shitposting so maybe quynn will be kind since it's day one? who is to say...... ]
Hawke remains sturdy as an oak with his naginata (17), and does his best to snag the Adolphe and Taair combo (13), and Richie (11) with various degrees of luck. guys........ please stop floating away........ guys........ ]
[Imagine if I just killed all of you fucks right here and now.
Unfortunately, I am not allowing you to die in the first section. The water pressure slams them against the door! Ow! In addition to bruising from hitting the door, they will also take some stabbing damage from the spikes along the sides of it.
But the keyhole is now easily within reach, so at least there's that. Richie, wake up! There's a (redacted) to fuck beyond this door!]
anyway! ow! that fucking hurts. he's got one arm around adolphe, and one clinging onto hawke for dear life, which means he is just a tiny little twink getting smacked into the door. it takes every bit of his wherewithal as a smart not strong guy to not immediately gasp and lose the air he was holding.
[ Adolphe violently coughs from trying to expel the water out of his lungs, but all that does is make the choking worse and he dies
just kidding. not yet. But he's almost losing consciousness (that he's barely holding onto because rp reasons). It's fine. it's fine. do your thing, richie. use the power of horny. ]
[ i really hope they're all taking spike damage while waiting for richie to use the power of his dick to save us all. YOU'VE GOT THIS, BUD. DO IT FOR LIL RICHIE.
it's probably a good thing hawke is too busy elsewise trying to keep everyone from drowning because he'd be cursing the hell out of all of this right about now. ]
[WE'RE ALL REALLY RIDING ON THE PROMISE OF THIS THROWAWAY GAG LINE QUYNN GAVE US HUH
Well he wasn't big swinging dick Rich in the last cyoa for nothing. The slam against the door jolts him awake (a little spike in the back helps, though he wishes it wouldn't). Richie is rattled back to consciousness, just in time to perceive the lock and his flagging friends beside him.
He grimaces, scrambles to get his tools out and working. Pops them in the lock and works at it. Does he save them...will he find out what lovely, lonely soul awaits his tender affections beyond?]
[With the promise of Claude's mom waiting on the other side, Richie channels the power of horny and unlocks the door! Yay!
Less yay is the fact that, due to the tremendous amount of pressure inside the tunnel, the door bursts open and sweeps them all into the other room — which is now completely flooded. Fuck. However, there is light coming from above them and they can see the illuminated shape of another metal grid on the ceiling. Identical to the grid they all had to get through to enter the tunnel in the first place, it is not locked but it will be heavy.
[ respectfully turns my eyes away from her once again
tumbling through the room into the pressure is extremely disorienting, but taair the mercenary is maybe slightly less ready to die than taair the normal person, and his survival instinct kicks in, so he starts swimming upwards, supporting the others - especially our strong boys. he can at least try to help push the grate up but his support is you know. not very helpful.
[ Adolphe finally stops being useless and starts using his endurance stat to start swimming, a little desperately, because he actually doesn't want to die. Wow. Once he's up there with Taair's help, he tries to push the grate up too. ]
