My duty was always going to be to this side, first and foremost. I suppose if no one had come to need caring for here, I could have tried to make myself useful over there.

I don't see any reason your optimism wouldn't be something someone needed regardless of whatever problem they may be facing. Kiraman and I are those who look for reasonable solutions, and even though our goal is compassion, many find us... cold and callous in our process.
