[HE ISN'T SURE IF ARMOR WOULD HELP THE HIGH-POWERED MAGICAL LASER ACTUALLY. Damn, now he has to think up the blueprints for anti-arcane armor.] I wouldn't allow it to go that far again. There are other methods of speaking to him. But I suppose there is no point in entertaining any of these ideas.

That might have more to do with the damage on your soul than the arcane itself. Most magic is finicky with its wielder.
