I didn't think I'd ever get involved with so many gun matches either.

Not really. Our weapons don't actually hurt anyone.

They're a lot realer than that! I guess they're about as real as it gets... But the bullets don't hurt—no one feels a thing, actually.

I see. I guess if you aren't alive there's no reason they would need to function based on the living world's rules.

As supernatural beings working under a goddess, we definitely have a more... magical flair to our process.

I... can't disagree. It's been pretty crazy, but it is fun.

Well, sort of. But the idea of choosing who to make fall in love does sound hard.

Ah... Ha ha. Sometimes it's really obvious, but when it gets tricky you start thinking about how someone's future is in your hands, and it gets nervewracking.

If it's obvious, wouldn't they just fall in love on their own? Or do people only fall in love if you shoot them?

No, without a cupid to light that spark, they wouldn't fall in love.

Oh. So it's always someone else deciding for them?

[ they clearly think that's kind of sad. but then after thinking about it a moment longer: ]

Maybe that's no different than falling in love on your own. It isn't like it's your own choice anyway, when it happens.

But everyone still has their likes and preferences, so we can't pick just anyone.

Nothing. The bullet phases through them, and they go about their day as usual.

So you're picking which eligible person they fall for.

So how do you know? How do you find out their likes and preferences and where their future is going?

That's where the recon comes in.

We'd have to observe someone for a while before coming to a decision.
