Is that how it happened? God offered you the chance to become an angel to watch over souls...?
[ idly curious
but at the question in return, yves nods.... ]
Sort of... Adolphe remembers something different from Monsieur Lucas and me. But I think it'd be hard for Monsieur Lucas, since he'd still have to deal with a lot of suffering after.
But at least when I was talking to Adolphe... He wants me to make a decision that's good for me, without waiting on him. But... I got him to agree that if in the end, if we get to decide, and I still choose to be wherever he goes—he'll accept it.
When God decided to run this trial, I don't think they realized that it would require as much work as it would. And since there's the whole entire heaven to run and they can't be here to watch everything for those eight weeks, they reached out to us to ask for help. They see and hear everything, but they wanted someone available to you at all times. While God's judgment is final, I think we do help as a different perspective to certain situations.
[ they consider what yves says before nodding along. ]
Time problems. [ they've said this before, and they seem to realize this might be the case for a few people, which is weird. ] Is... what you both remember bad? I think it's fair that Adolphe wants you to make your own decision, but at the same time you're friends.
[ and why wouldn't you want to be with your friends if you could make things work? ]
Ah.... I see. That's... an interesting way of going about things, but I guess God is just different from what I expected too. Do you like them?
[ axolotl god....
but yves just gets to the second question and... smiles sadly ]
... yes. I don't like to admit it, but it was really hard. The past four years have been difficult, especially after Adolphe died. Then Ceres, then Monsieur Lucas, then Mathis disappeared, and then I had to kill Scien.
Being able to die alongside him made sense for a lot of reasons but... one of them was my own selfishness.
[ to choose an end that gave other people hope, but also let him cut short what could've been a lifetime of loneliness ]
God's methods are maybe a little unconventional, but that's what I like about them. That, and they do want you all to succeed. I think that means more than anything.
[ but they're quiet as they listen to his explanation. i don't remember if they're holding hands still, but it's fine, they're initiating a second handhold for a second. ]
That's a very short time to lose a very large amount of people you care for. [ not to mention murdering a person and losing a part of yourself. ] I think people forget it's possible for other people to die of a broken heart. But it's a sad way to go. I wouldn't want that for anyone.
... I think so, too. Wanting the best for people... Then I think it's a little easier for me to believe that's truly God.
[ rather than someone cold and unloving (cough scien cough)
but... he doesn't quite fully agree, because he thought he'd only live to 23 for most of those years. even still, he understands the sentiment behind it more than anything. and that resonates. a broken heart, is it? ]
... yeah. I'm okay now. [ he says it again, and he really seems to believe it ] Even seeing Adolphe and Monsieur Lucas... If I had a broken heart before, it's been mended a bit now.
It's why they decided on the project. They strongly believe in it, even if other parts of heaven might be less sure.
[ would scien care for an axolotl...
it's fine he doesn't agree. they're getting used to him not agreeing when it comes to these topics anyway. ]
I'm glad to hear that much. And spending more and more time with them is repairing it bit by bit, right? The circumstances are more dire now, what with being dead and here, but at least it's together. That's more than before.
