[ oh. frowning, but, casually reaching to just start looking at the teas too. for no reason in particular. ]

Do you remember what it smelled like? Like herbs, or flowers? Woody?

[ watching him with a curious expression ]

Oh. No, not really. He drank coffee when he worked, but then cut back on the caffeine when he got sick, and everything I remember from those years smelled like... medicine. [ she picks up a random thing of tea ] There's a lot of studies about scents and memories, so I was mostly curious if I could pick it up.

[ so something uncaffeinated then, but probably strong if he was trying to replace coffee. ]

I remember the Circle clinic always smelled of embrium. A flower. Wynne would keep it around to dry it, because it's good for healing potions. It was strong, probably to cover up all the more unpleasant smells. But I started to hate it just the same. Every time I smell it, it brings me back to that room.

... Yeah. It doesn't really matter what a clinic or hospital smells like. Underneath it, it's always going to be sickness and injuries. [ looking over at him ] You spent a lot of time there?

Yes. For training. I'm a Spirit Healer. Wynne was the only other one at Kinloch Hold - a Senior Enchanter while I was an apprentice. We all thought she was an ancient old biddy, but I'm a lot closer to her age now. [ she was like. mid-50s. not really that old at all. ] We're ... rare enough. Or maybe it's more that few of us make it to full magehood. if you are communing with spirits, you will encounter demons more frequently. It makes the Templars jumpy.

At my clinic in Darktown, I didn't bother to cover the smell. Blood and bile barely cut through the ... local flavor anyway. [ rot. fetid wastewater. chokedamp. on good days, the sea. ] At least it was honest. This was a place of healing, not a hightown bathhouse.

Everyone seems so old when you're young. It's even worse when they die and you grow older than they ever will.

[ this probably sounds insane coming from what looks like a teenager but don't worry about it. she's still watching anders, a forgotten flavor of tea in her hands ]

I always thought healing was kind of noble. [ she shakes her head ] What does it mean, to heal a spirit?

[ uh. yeah. he has questions. but maybe in a bit. ]

You don't heal spirits. You heal people, with the aid of a Spirit. A creature of the Fade - where magic comes from. If ... you saw Justice, then you've seen one.

Most mages can learn a basic healing spell - stitch a flesh wound together, or soothe a burn. Spirit healing is more powerful. Some spirits can channel life force, energy, and the Spirit Healer can channel them. It depends on the talent of the Healer and the strength of the Spirit, but a powerful enough one can bind mortal wounds, or cure lingering disease.

[ she does not say that everyone has seen justice by now, considering. the trials ]

That's... [ there's a pause ] You and Justice must've worked hard together on that. On helping people.
