I think that's a fair thing to be leery of. [ she follows to have a seat, taking the cards to shuffle a bit. ]

Have you told me about Rivaini's Circle before? [ the answer is no, but she's hoping to give him something to talk about to relax a little. ]

[ watching her shuffle, letting his fingers drum. ]

I don't know much about it. I've never been to Rivain. There was a woman in Hawke's group - Isabela. She was from there, originally. Not ... the Cicle. She isn't a mage. She's a pirate. And never wears pants.

A pantsless pirate. [ mildly. she's setting out a spread for him, facedown at the moment. ] Just how many people were in that group?

[ watching this, but idly now since he's now ... reminiscing. ]

Varric - he was my friend too, though I expect Hawke's greatest friend in the end. A dwarf, though he'd only ever lived on the surface. He was the only one of us from Kirkwall. He's a writer, amongst other things.

Merrill was a Dalish elf, and for all her innocence and charms she was deeply entangled in blood magic and deals with demons, like the fool she is.

Fenris, a freed elven slave from Tevinter. He could never let go of his anger at mages, at the magisters. I expect he's rather pleased I'm dead and gone.

Aveline. She arrived with Hawke and his family from Ferelden, as a refugee. Eventually she took a position with the Kirkwall guard and became captain. A mindless devotee of the letter of the law, for the most part.

Sebastian, the ousted Prince of Starkhaven. The less said about him the better.

Isabela - like I said, she was a Rivaini pirate. We met once, a few years before we ever ended up in Kirkwall together, funnily enough. She never cared much for anything, except her own skin.

[ forgot one. ]

For a time, Carver, Hawke's younger brother, also travelled with us. While we were gone to the Deep Roads he ran off and joined the Templars. Always has a chip on his shoulder that might as well be a two-ton boulder. A tit of the greatest order.

I remember you mentioned Varric over your texts. But the rest... they all sound like people who reasonably should not have actually been traveling together or getting along. Even if the time was short, or the meetings were brief, the fact that you remember them this well means there was an impact.

[ give her a moment to let the cards sit. ]

Even if Hawke isn't going back to be the Champion, he'll have those people. And you'll have Shadowheart and her friends. Has she told you about them?

Hah! We were together for seven years. Plenty of time to remember each other.

[ they all kind of hated each other. but in a way where you love each other too. but also genuinely hate each other. ]

A little. A few of them, anyway. I think we've known each other longer than she's known them by now, though.

That's longer than I've known a lot of people, really. I can imagine all of the good and bad that comes with it. I think that also means there's just more time for you to grow into it with them, if that's what you'd like to do. Not to replace your original group, but just... add.

[ but she flips the first card. hello, death. ]

Despite how this looks, I think this is probably the most serendipitous card you could have to begin with.

What does it mean, then?

[ me sweaty bc i am still baby and learning and making it up. but she smiles a little. ]

New beginnings. Letting go of the old, and transforming for the new.
