But then they come across cadavers and remains of people. He's surprised of the amount here, but mostly not surprised by the remains just rotting in this place. Everything stinks. Christ. There's a tinge of sympathy for the babies and children, and not much else for the adults. Humanity is restored upon seeing sacrifices for the children, even if it didn't quite work out.
